How can I connect the DVR (R15) to my PC so I can copy from DVR to my PC? Experienced people's replies only. Thoughts and guesses are not wanted. Thanks. |

| A TV card (or video capture) in your PC and have the outputs of the DVR to the inputs of the capture device. Press play on the DVR and click the record button on the capture software. Works like a charm and is probably the easiest. -- Thanks for reading! |

| Unless you know of some "magical" way to do it, you ARE going to need some type of video capture device. The DVR outputs on either the component or composite outputs. Therefore, you have to have something on the PC end that you can connect those outputs to.
I have an R15 hooked to a PLEXTOR PX-M402U capture device using RCA video and audio cables (although I could use S-Video if desired). The Plextor is strictly a hardware based capture device. No TV tuner at all. Works beautifully and I can capture at 720x480 resolution.
If you're thinking about using the USB port on the R15, you're out of luck. That is, unless there's some new "hacking" method that I'm not aware of.
Not sure what you mean by "what's the purpose of connecting the DVR directly to the PC or network". -- I'll take "Things Only I Would Know" for $10,000. |

1 edit | reply to DepecheNYC Damn, what's wrong with some of you? I clearly mentioned "Thoughts and guesses are not wanted" in the first post.
Instead of just waiting for people to reply, some with definitely inaccurate information, I've decided to do search of my own. Then I found below so if you are going to tell me that I need a capture card DO NOT REPLY anymore!

PS: Why do I have a funny feeling that some of you will argu that I've mentioned R15 in the first post? If that's what you were going to say then read my second post! THOUGHTS AND GUESSES ARE NOT WANTED! I ONLY WANT FACTS FROM EXPERIENCED ONES WHO SUCCESSFULLY DID WHAT I WANT TO DO! |

| reply to DepecheNYC You can argue all you want, but the article is talking about a true TiVo unit - not a DirecTV DVR (R15/R20). TiVo's are comepletely different animals and have very well known and documented hacks.
If you want to get a different model, then so be it. However, with D* converting to MPEG4, the older models will (eventually) be useless. -- Thanks for reading! |

This threat is definitely wasting my time by reading useless replies. I'm unsubscribing from the thread to use my time usefully elsewhere. |

| reply to DepecheNYC We're sorry you asked a question about a specific unit (the DirecTV R15) and got very specific and, I might add, accurate information in response.
Furthermore, the R15 is NOT a DirecTivo unit. -- Q: When will it be done? A: When pigs fly ! |
