(Speakeasy) Recommended Prices again updated for Fall 2006

Customer Suggestions (How to improve Speakeasy)

Suggested speakeasy DSL price changes

I suggest the following changes in price for the BASIC packages.

Basic should include 1 static IP Address and 5 100MB speakeasy E-mails

768kbps/128kbps $25.99
1.5Mbps/384kbps $32.99
1.5Mbps/768kbps $39.99
3.0Mbps/768kbps $55.99
6.0Mbps/768kbps $79.99

This suggested pricing structure would cause most current lower tier customers to strongly consider upgrading to the next level service.

When ADSL2+ is available:
1.5Mbps/384Kbps $25.99
1.5Mbps/768Kbps $39.99
3.0Mbps/768Kbps $55.99
6.0Mbps/768Kbps $79.00
8.0Mbps/1.0Mbps $99.99
Kinda hard to sell and make a profit unless you sell other services with these next two...
16.0Mbps/1.0Mbps $129.99 or more
24.0Mbps/2.0Mbps $179.95 or more

I suggest the following prices for the OneLink Service

Basic OneLink should include 1 static IP Address and 5 100MB speakeasy E-mails

768kbps/128kbps $35.99
1.5Mbps/384kbps $42.99
1.5Mbps/768kbps $49.99
3.0Mbps/768kbps $65.99
6.0Mbps/768kbps $89.99

Please keep in mind that Speakeasy is a premium service and would not be able to offer equal speeds as comcast or other vendors at a lower price without affecting the quality of their services.

DSL Extreme is now offering 6.0/768 in my area for $59.99 for 10 months followed by $69.99 aftewards. This is a COVAD open port account with a single static IP. Other then using COVADs network and DSLextreme's support this is a reasonable price comparison.

Your comments are welcome.

It is starting to grind on me a bit that I pay after taxes near $54 for 1.5/384 as I could get 2 verizon 3.0/768 connections for $59.

My other suggestions are to get into IPTV as you already own your own network, this is something many other providers are struggling with. If you can offer 40 channels of 480p quality TV for less then $29.99 you will be one up on all the other competitors.
Most TV cable or otherwise can not offer 480P image quality. True HD is a nice marketing tool but does not offer a cost effective practical service to consumers.
Before someone else replies, I have seen true HD content and yes it is amazing. But think about it, HD takes more bandwidth, way too much to support without a network designed with HD content in mind. Speakeasy is the business of making money not sinking the company. HD is too expensive and impractical for them to attempt at this point especially with COVAD only offering standard DSL for the last mile connection.

I would work on winning back your residental customers. Advertise using your strengths, Domestic support, Reliable service, Private network. One last piece of advice finish the WebMail. My CEO liked it when it worked, or how about an update while you think about it.

I truely understand that I may not represent all your customers, but I AM your customer at four different locations.

Best Regards,
Your Customer

Re: Speakeasy Recommended Prices again updated for Fall 2006

The prices you have quoted would be a very welcomed change. My bill for 6/768 OneLink is 130.+ each & every month. But relief may be on the way, finally here in Houston OEN's Fision service (all fiber) is finally starting to deploy with 10MB symmetrical(up to 100MB) connection and only part of a triple play package for approx $110. per month....SE can color me gone if & when they get to my hood

I'd also suggest offering SE Voice to customers who don't use them as an ISP. Yes, I know that'd eliminate the QoS advantage but that would put them basically even with Vonage. Seems like a natural way to grow the business, especially given the niche nature of the company as an ISP. I know they're becoming more business oriented but there's still a big residential market out there.

They've even got a natural company name for a VoIP provider.

Good idea but it will never happen unfortunately. Covad gets killed on residential service as it is. :-(

Those prices are LESS than what I can get for AT&T DSL - why would SE price themselves BELOW a competitor when it has superior quality, support, and TOS? To get the same thing I have now with AT&T I would only save ~$7 (depending on taxes) because the base price is $54.99 before taxes and fees.

If you are paying more then what I posted above for less features or speed, I would say either you are getting RIPPED off or your area is seriously monopolized.

What is your zipcode that your paying so much for so little?

Well, I had been with SE for over 1.5 years. Recently, my local ISP lowered their prices. I pay a flat fee of $89.95/mo. with a 2 year contract for 3.0/1.0Mbps service, and have a /28 routed to me free of charge. I also have access to the Routing/System Engineers 24x7 via their cell phones.
