In that case, what's the purpose of connecting the DVR directly to the PC or the network? You aren't going to be able to hook up the Philips DSR704 to your pc either unless you hack it. You'll have to be proficient in Linux.

The DVR outputs on either the component or composite outputs. Therefore, you have to have something on the PC end that you can connect those outputs to. I have an R15 hooked to a PLEXTOR PX-M402U capture device using RCA video and audio cables (although I could use S-Video if desired). The Plextor is strictly a hardware based capture device. No TV tuner at all. Works beautifully and I can capture at 720x480 resolution. If you're thinking about using the USB port on the R15, you're out of luck. That is, unless there's some new "hacking" method that I'm not aware of. Not sure what you mean by "what's the purpose of connecting the DVR directly to the PC or network". -- I'll take "Things Only I Would Know" for $10,000.
