| [help] Port 80 Blocked
Got an Optimum Online Boost account in order to make a website I'm developing available to various people for testing and feedback.
I have been struggling on an off over the last week and a half to make the site available, that is, allow incoming access to port 80 on the server, ... so far without success.
Configuration is IIS running on XP Pro, Belkin Pre-N router, Motorola 5120 modem. All firewall software has been disabled during tests.
The router has been configured to forward port 80 to port 80 on the IIS server. Cablevision tech support tells me that port 80 is open.
[As an aside, the controls to configure port 80 or DDNS that are supposed to be on the Boost control panel page do not appear. They tell me that this happens to random accounts and they think it's going to take a couple of weeks to fix.]
The site works fine over my home network.
Port scanning from an external site says that port 80 does not exist. Tested this with the router in the loop and with the server plugged directly into the modem and got the same result.
Nmap run from a machine on the home network reports that port 80 is open.
I've spent a total of about 3 hours on the phone with Optimum tech support and another hour with the Belkin people, not to mention numerous web searches.
Anything I've forgotten? Any ideas on what to try next?
Help would be deeply appreciated. |

| The control to configure port 80 that is supposed to be on the Boost control panel page does not appear on my account (in IE or Firefox). They tell me that this happens to random accounts and they think it's going to take a couple of weeks to fix. Same for the port 25 and DDNS controls.
Thanks for the thought. |

My account had the same problem. optonline.net didnt know I had Boost. I posted in the OOL Direct forum here, and it was fixed in a day or two. -- University of Southern California - Class of 2010. | reply to pevans36 You are supposed to be able to fix it from this page - »www.optonline.net/boost/StatusPanel
I had the problem initially where there was nothing to configure on that page. I called support and they had the wrong MAC address. It was fixed in 5 minutes. -- Stop Cancer! -- Our Hope |

| I wish my luck was as good. Been through both of these issues ... they know I have Boost and they took down the MAC address and confirmed that they could communicate with the modem. I've put in 4 calls since last Monday and on each call went through multiple levels of support so this has been tried multiple times. No joy. |

I know it's not a good fix, but temporarily you could use a different port, at least for testing purposes. |

Since you have a router between the Modem and your computer, just tell it to route incoming 8080 to port 80 on your computer and any Port80 block will no longer be applicable. To access it just use a URL of Domain:8080/Directory in lieu of Domain/Directory. |

| reply to pevans36 Try email too »cablevision.custhelp.com/cgi-bin···/ask.php Can't hurt. Years ago my reverse DNS wasn't working which was preventing me from logging into a UNIX shell account. Phone support got me nowhere but an email got it assigned to someone who ultimately worked to fix it. By that time I had learned to use another program to tunnel in but it was still nice that it got fixed properly. Of course we're talking maybe 6-7 years ago so who knows where the email goes now. |

Hope everything is resolved to your satisfaction, Dave |
