 | reply to Terikan Try this alternative update site. Requires Firefox, NOT IE. You don't need any WGA nonsense enabled either. Very slick!

m$ updates available - download +burn to disc said by Terikan:Can't get windows update to work, says I need event log, BITS, and automatic updates started, and they are in fact started. Security updates are available on ISO-9660 CD image files from the Microsoft Download Center LINK: »support.microsoft.com/?kbid=913086&SD=tech
Microsoft now releases ISO-9660 CD image files that contain all the security updates that are released on the Microsoft Windows Update Web site for Windows. The ISO image files are released at the same time as security updates are released on the Windows Update Web site.

Best source...with Firefox browser! Period. No WGA or other crap. Just the plain updates with Firefox browser, picked and installed as easily as with Windowsupdate. »windowsupdate.62nds.com/

Re: newest windows update, need alternative download. You should call Microsoft. It is free help for problems with WU and any security patch problem.
In the meantime though you can download your free copy (free for one year) of Shavlik Netchk Protect. It will fetch the updates and install them. Brian Livingston (Windows Secrets newsletter) recommends that no one use WU/MU any longer but use this instead.
I have been a long time fan of the site Mark Jansson mentions but it doesn't always work right. Brian Livingston tested it and found problems with it and he recommends Shavlik because it does work properly all the time. I'm not crazy about Shavlik because I don't care for all the charts and visual displays, but it does work properly.
