1 edit | [CDV] Trying to port a vonage number to CDV
I am trying to port my vonage number to CDV. The number originally came from Vonage not ported from anywhere else.
I was on the phone for 2 weeks after each time they kept saying it wouldn't accept the order.
Finally found some one that was able to talk to the correct people and got it working had a date setup. Well they call 3 days before and say oh we need to reschedule. Well I couldn't make 2 of the days that had which was 2 weeks out so I had to do the next best option which was a month.
My install is set for tomorrow and I just get a call yet again saying install isn't going to happen because Comcast messed up on the porting process and it has to manually be done. This lady that has no clue says oh it won't be a month probably 1 to 2 weeks. Comes back from being on hold and says first option is end of october. I said if that's the service I can expect with CDV then you better cancel I am not going to keep playing games. Either figure out how to port the number or just say you can't.
Supposedly I am getting a call back.
Anyone ever heard of this or had similar issues? |

| Comcast has been porting numbers for quite sometime now. Even before CDV. Vonage and RCN are NOTORIOUS for creating errors or hold ups. Its not uncommon when we show up to install on a given date and even complete the install and then find out the number wasnt fully released. The techs will ask straight away- "Vonage number?" "Yeah? Why do you ask?"
In the city its Vonage or RCN. Not to say that the rep doing the order couldnt have done something wrong.. but if it was something on our end it wouldnt take but a day at the most to clear up and get on with it. -- CableFAQ.org

| Well half of this I know is Comcast I am sure this instance is Vonage.
The whole process has left a bitter taste in my mouth with calls supposed to get returned and not. Then me having to call I don't know how many times to just get the order in. |

1 edit | reply to gdm When I tried to port my BellSouth numbers to Vonage, Vonage assigned me temporary numbers to which I was able to forward my BellSouth calls until BellSouth processed the port request.
I eventually just cancelled the port request and kept the temporary Vonage numbers as permanent because BellSouth kept ignoring the request to port the numbers.
Perhaps Comcast can also assign you a temporary number to which you can forward your Vonage calls until the porting process takes place (if ever). -- Outsourcing is not the same thing as offshoring! Test your firewall. Smell the flowers. |

| reply to gdm NetFixer,
Thanks for the info and some one at comcast that knew what they were talking about and suggested that.
I have someone coming tomorrow to do the install with a temp. number then hopefully in 1.5 weeks they will be back to finish the port process. |

| reply to gdm I had the exact same problem with my CDV install. They couldn't port the number after try after try after try. Then they were able to get it into the computer and it was a three week wait.
Next day I get a call saying they need my Vonage number because it didn't get accepted into the computer. So I ask "if I go with a number from CDV, what prefixes do you have?" because my vonage prefix was 922 and everybody thought that was a weird number. So they give me some options and I liked one of the numbers, so I went with that.
As soon as they told the computer I was no longer porting the number from Vonage... wait.. whats this. huh. they had an install opening the NEXT DAY!.
Ugh. Comcast's porting process is WACK. But I'm extremely pleased with the CDV service. The arris modem is nice, and battery backup is sweeeeet. Call quality is spectacular. -- I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person! |

Porting from a regular POTS to VoIP or Cable Digital Voice is easier. |

If the computer will not accept you number for porting, then why on earth would they want to schedule an install date. The reason they were able to schedule the install date so soon is bacuse they gave you a new number and did not have to wait on anyone else... -- FWD#: 223611 |

| reply to Epikos said by Epikos :As soon as they told the computer I was no longer porting the number from Vonage... wait.. whats this. huh. they had an install opening the NEXT DAY!. If its ported then there is a minimum of something like 7 days and thats just lead time to get that number from your current provider. Now, your current provider can take longer then that time and thats what holds things up. If you take a number from Comcast theoritically they could connect you within the next hour or so.
Ported numbers have a different schedule group set up, non ported have ther own. Obviously non ported numbers can get done sooner. Its not whack, its reality.

You don't think it makes sense that you could get an earlier install if you took a Comcast native number??
Doesn't seem all that shocking.
Porting a number is a complicated process, thats why they must schedule out the appt. I asked a comcast rep when I talked to them, Porting from VZ takes 5 days. Everyone else is at least 10 days. Apparently the reason VZ is quicker is because it automated. -- Fighting on the Internet is like winning the Special Olympics. Win or lose, your still Retarted! |

| reply to gdm I guess I left out an important part of the conversation. I was scheduling all of this and trying to get things setup within a day or two of moving into my new home. When they were setting up my account and scheduling things, they never told me the three week wait was because I was porting my number. In fact, when I asked if there was a way for me to get an install on a sooner date, they simply said "no, we're really backed up and can't do it any sooner" so at no point was I told that if I took a comcast number that I could be setup the next day.
That's what annoyed me most; being told that they were just backed up and nobody could get an install for three weeks out. And just by chance I asked about a native comcast number and oh look, "can you be available tomorrow between 8 and 10am?" -- I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person! |

| reply to gdm Bro I have been thru this with Vonage before. Almost lost a number that was in the family for 30 years. Turned out that I had to research and find out who the carriers were and call them directly. In my case it was Level3 and even they claimed Vonage was notorious for this hold up. It took many months of BS from Vonage but I figured it out. Good Luck! -- »www.devicemanager.net |
