| reply to NICK ADSL UK I notice that the installation notes for this say that installing this will also install (and set to run constantly) Java Web Start. Is this really necessary for Java to function, and if not, is there any way to prevent it running all the time and yet still have Java functionality? It isn't running as a process right now, pre-updating. -- The truth of a thing is the feel of it, not the think of it. -- Stanley Kubrick |

edit@ there was no web start in this jre update or any previous one i used. last time i saw it installed was in the days of 1.4.2

| reply to Cudni said by Cudni :edit@ there was no web start in this jre update or any previous one i used. Thanks, just going by the install notes officially on the site---THEY say it IS there, so I was concerned. They also say it can't be uninstalled easily, so I would guess if it was there, it wouldn't show up in Add/Remove---services rarely do.
At any rate, do you have to uninstall first? Running it with update 6 now. -- The truth of a thing is the feel of it, not the think of it. -- Stanley Kubrick |
