PowerNOC

Does anyone here have any experience configuring this software?

I am having some stress, struggling to figure out how it does what it does. The documentation is extremely poor; I would expect documentation explaining EXACTLY how it operates, and the technical aspect behind the way you assign IP addressing.

Any help is very appreciated.

Well I think we got it sorted out. We didnt set this box up we just aquired it.

We were trying to make some IP address changes and were thinking like Linux people; you edit the config scripts. Apperently you can't do that. You ahve to approach it like a linux-ignorant person and use the GUI to do it all.

Re: PowerNOC

Run away.... We used it, we have a hate, hate, hate relationship with it. Although I think our verison used is 3 years ago.... I don't know if it has changed for the better or worse...

We currently use it and are okay with it. We had problems with the BMU, seems the one we bought will only support under 200 users. When you have more than that it is a huge bottleneck. We tried to return it but it was past the cutoff date for returns. It sits quietly on the shelf unplugged - make me an offer on it!

The powernoc down fall is the lack of documentation. You have to figure it out on your own! We have been running it for over a year now with no problems. It does billing our billing, leads, credit cards and trouble ticketing. If you don't have the BMU's the other features are worthless

I used powernoc for a year and a half... the feature set is great compared to most other boxed offerings, but the learning curve on the software is steep. I used both methods of service, licensed & hosted. The licensed installation was definitely a pita, but much easier to manage. The hosted setup w/ the bmu was easier to set up, but their end of the software was flaky fairly consistantly.

The big drawback to this company is support. Their cheif engineer pretty much runs the show and seems to be the only competent one in the building.. anybody other than him seems to be only there to take messages.

Ok i got the ip information changed out. I would like to thank powernoc support. Without them this would not have been possible. I know the documentation is lacking, but the support staff has totally made up for it. I even recieved after-hours support, which is good. I suggest those that run it and have had problems try and work with them and at least give them a chance.
