Re: The next promo?

And, as a follow up, I was able to do this online. I received an AT&T monthly email newsletter. In it was a link to see if we qualified for a faster speed. I knew we didn't (too far away) but followed the link anyway. Gave it the phone # and it showed no go for higher speed, but it did offer to renew me at the 19.99 current rate for our current speed. I then had to log on to my online AT&T account and confirm a few things, but all went well and I received a confirmation email the next day.

Now I only need to watch the billing to make sure it goes through.

Thanks all.

So if I'm currently on Express at the old Month-to-Month price, will I automatically be reduced to the new 19.99 rate?
These are the new rates...I'm not sure what happens in your case...I'm sure Annonamoose See Profile or lev See Profile will have the answer...

Edit; I guess this is the answer ---> Update: One AT&T tech tells us these are not - as we had speculated - introductory offers (no confirmation from higher ups yet), but remain fixed at this price-point. It also appears that despite what the press release says about this being available only to new customers,
existing customers can get these new rates, provided they ask for them.

If you sign a one year agreement, you get one month credited free. This is mentioned on some pages and not others.

I thought having both month-to-month and 1 year listed on the site was strange too. Didn't see any difference between the two either.

No more limited-time offers.

There will be no more contracts (now month-to-month only)

Per month pricing plans starting tomorrow (10/3/06):

Basic 768k d/l - $14.99
Express 1.5 mbps - $19.99
Pro 3.0 mbps - $24.99
Elite 6.0 mbps - $34.99
The website is still showing one-year contracts in addition to month-to-month, at the same prices, so it appears they are still marketing to people who expect the price to go up within a year.

I looked over the details briefly and it looks like modems are $49.95 with a $49.95 rebate only for speed upgrade and new customers. That is, I didn't see anything about getting a free modem if you renew to a one-year contract.

What other advantage is there with a contract? What's the company line on this?

So does this mean, with the lower speed, I have a chance of getting DSL now?
Nope. It's still the same distance requirements...just the download dropped as a cost savings...

---> You know what the upload rate is on the 768k package? I'm assuming 128k or 256k.

You're right, DAH... Didn't know they had a 768 down package anymore...

Annonamoose See Profilesays...

There is no need to re-up anymore...

As of 09/11/06, the company dropped the regular rate for DSL to these prices.

Express (Dynamic) 384 to 1.5 $19.99 after the 12 month term.

Pro (Dynamic) 1.5 to 3.0 $24.99 after the 12 month term.

Elite (Dynamic) 3.0 to 6.0 $34.99 after the 12 month term.

Those are for everyone...if your term came due after the 11th, you'll automatically re-rate to that.

After my current contract ends, am I going to be "grandfathered" at $49.95...
You may very well be. To be safe, you might want to call up at the end of your contract and ask for a re-rate.

It's good to see that the contract games for AT&T DSL are ending.

The new basic package, is a 384k-768k download with a 128-384 upload...
Are they extending the distance at which they will service this low speed tier?

Can I count on that?

My bill shows my basic rate as $49.95 per month, with discounts to effectively reduce that. After my current contract ends, am I going to be "grandfathered" at $49.95 while most folk are paying $19.95 for the same service?

Just did a up speed test and these are the results Upload Speed: 619 kbps (77.4 KB/sec transfer rate)... Remember you only get about 80% of the 768k...
I believe he was looking for the upload rate on the plan that offers 768k download (Basic plan). I doubt that the 768k download plan will offer anything near 768k upload. Can you clarify what package you did your test on?

Sorry, I have no further information on upload rates or packages. Maybe there will be more information tomorrow when the official announcement is made.
