[Philly] Good Restaurants

Might be coming to Philadelphia in late October for a mini-vacation. Basically, a quick trip to celebrate our anniversary. Looking for suggestions for decent restaraunts: $100-$300 price range for the two of us. Downtown locations preferred. Oh... And someplace that we can actually manage to get reservations.

Any way, thanks for any help.

No one? Not one single good restaraunt that anyone would go to for an anniversary meal?

What type of cuisine are you looking for?
IMHO the burbs have the best romantic spots.
I could be wrong.

Food type is open. It doesn't need to be "romantic" per se.

Last year we ate at the City Tavern.

We'll probably be staying either at the Marriott Downtown (near the Reading Terminal).

Been a while since I've hung in Philly but my sister still lives there. I'll email and ask her. She recently moved to the Italian Market area and mentioned some small Italian restaurant where Stallone apparently eats when he's in town. I'd assume that means it's good food...

Ate not far from the market years ago at some fancy French place too - was very good...even the pate', which I generally think is pretty gross. Maybe it was the atmosphere...

A couple years ago we went there for a weekend and stayed at the DoubleTree off Market St. Across the street was a concert hall which, I think, had a fancy restaurant on top...but maybe it was just an arboretum...
Will post back if Sis replies.

Stallone goes to a retsuarant in South Philly:
Victor's cafe. Never been there but sounds good.

Cuba Libre in Old City is good -hip and near a bunch
of bars (gets very crowded in Old City, so need to be
ready for that):

There are a ton of good restaurants. Probably best to
go to Citysearch.com or the zagat, and search by the
type of food or the neighborhood that he's staying in.

Happy to answer questions about specific restuarnts he
may find online.

Stay away from Cuba Libre. Overpriced trendy and it isn't even real Cuban food and I should know, I'm Cuban. The best restaurant for a romantic evening is the Fountain Restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel.»philadelphia.citysearch.com/profile/8974970 Make sure you get a table by the window with a view of the Ben Franklin Parkway. The service is superb and the food is excellent. I spent a little over $300. for a birthday dinner for my daughter. Also check out:

Le Bec Fin, The Treetops, Brasserie Perrier, Sussanah Foo, and Bistro Romano: »philadelphia.citysearch.com/profile/8991030

Mama Maria's on Passyunk in South Philly.

Great restaurant, great time.

Italian at its finest. Everything included in one price including wine and after dinner apertifs (came to $64 with tip).

IIRC, it was about a seven or eight cousre meal, starting with wine and antipasta, and ending with desert and all the home-made apertifs you could handle.

You will not leave hungry. Or sober.

Well, we're going to be coming to town for the Blackhawks game. Going to arrive in the afternoon, so, gotta figure out what to do for a pre-game meal.

Wife wants to do the Italian market Tuesday or Wednesday during the day. Got reservations at Morimotos for one of the nights we'll be in town.

I'll probably try one of the other suggestions in this thread on a "what's available when we figure out when we need it" basis.

Yup. Booked reservations there a couple weeks ago.

I'll have to check some of the others when we get to our hotel.

In case anyone here doesn't know that "a bit pricey" entails...

We ate there last night. Food was very good, but the tab came to just shy of $500 (before tip) for the two of us. That was without ordering the most expensive food or drinks. I went with one of the medium priced Omekase's - a seven-course "chef's choice" tasting menu - for each of us. It was good, but it would have been nicer had they made one set of dishes for her and one for me. This is what we'd done at Maestro's (DC) in previous years.

Missed that. Ended up in the Italian Market area, this afternoon, and ate at Villa di Roma. Nice little hole in the wall. Perhaps will seek it out next time we're in town.
