| Buy and open one?
Quick check: 1. Atheros customer list does not show CNET. 2. AP Router (Realtek) f/w site does not list CNET. 3. DD-WRT (Broadcom) f/w site does not list CNET.
I do not think it is Marvell or InCommPro either since the operating temp spec is excellent (-20C to +70C).
Maybe Prism GT or Ralink. |

| said by lutful :Buy and open one? The problem is I saw this device at a 'future client'. My 'failed' competitor has sold it to him. I don't know where he bought it neither im allowed to open it. The client has paid a lot of money for the CPE to my competitor. He wants my service but doesnt want to pay for CPE anymore. He wants to use existing one. What can i do, its a 'take it or leave it' situation. Before I decide what to do with this client, i would like to find some more info about the given AP, but i can't seem to find anything related to chipset and firmware it uses. What options does it have etc... |

| reply to ponline They have a US office, suggest you call during standard pacific time hours of operations. Interesingly enough I don't see CNET on the wifi alliance page???? I would ask them as well why they are not listed! |

I don't know where he bought it neither im allowed to open it. Look at the FCC registration number sticker. The FCC site has usually internal picture of the product. In any case it is a generic 802.11b/g AP with a client mode. |

1 edit | I went to the client and try to test this AP. Firs I opened it, inside is RTL8186 chipset, and a RTL8225 radio (i suppose the tiny little chip is radio). I associated it to my AP (mikrotik with senao NL2511 radio), the signal reading at mikrotik was -82 for this client ( well LOS was not good, but still dissapointed). I wanted to compare it with other radios so I attached Ovislink WL5460 ( RTL8186 chip) in the same cable and antenna and i got -78. On this same cable and antenna I had mikrotik with cm9 and it was associated with -72 db signal to the AP. Testing is done with 'B only' mode, with all radios. All three tested radios claim similar tx power (cm9 =18db ovislink ~18, CNET 17db) and look at the differences.
So, this CNET AP is no good at all, anyway I wasn't expecting very good results with this radio when i saw two antenna connectors. With one antenna i couldn't find anything on site survey, and with the second it was ok, there was no options on firmware to select antennas.
Disclaimer: Those results are achieved by testing only one CNET CWA-854 radio, so they may not be true for all CNET CWA-854 radios, in case this particular one was broken. |
