Re: [Help Me] D-Link DI-624 and WPA issue

Could be a Windows problem.
Make sure your Windows is updated via Windows/Microsoft Update.

And/or try updating your Windows with the Windows WPA patch:

Suppafreak, at least d-link support tried to help you. I had the exact same issue with dwl-g520 rev. A pci adaptor after I upgraded to 2.48. No access points showed up at all. I called DLink support and told them that the signal was at 100% with the 2.23, at about 40% with 2.42, but no access points would show up with 2.48. Their only advice was to move the router within about 10 feet to see if that would work or roll back to 2.42. They said the only thing they could do was report that there was an issue with 2.48.

I finally gave up on the D-Link drivers, uninstalled them and tried the Atheros 4.2.2.7 last night (haven't upgraded the driver to 4.2.2.33 yet like tqhoang suggest). Immediately saw the router with 100% signal and full Super G connection. Downloaded about 2gb worth of stuff from bittorrent overnight, seems pretty solid.

Only caveat in installing was that I had to run repair after the initial install (click on the Remove programs - Atheros Client Utility and it will give you a screen to remove or repair) because a necessary dll wasn't installed the first time.

Only thing I miss about the D-Link is that you can check the download and upload speeds. I'll probably have to find a separate utility for that, anyone have a suggestion?

One of the v2.54 fixes was applicable to Win ME & 98, but it still has a newer driver than the one in package v2.53. Also the drivers (both Win98-Me and WinXP-2k) were updated to support the revB5, which is what my bundled install CD had.

The 2.54 driver was not supposed to be in there that one is for Win ME and Win 98. Not sure why it displays as a latest driver under Win XP.

I'm not sure if the difference between the DWL-G650 revB3 and revB5 is why the revC v3.18 drivers worked with mine. It didn't complain about anything missing when I installed them. I didn't mention it, but to actually get driver v3.18, you need to look under the DWL-G520 revB which driver also supports the DWL-G650 revC. Again this is for the PCMCIA DWL-G650, not your PCI DWL-G520 (use the Atheros drivers for that one).

If that still doesn't work, perhaps try the regular DWL-G650 revB driver v2.54? That is the latest one, not v2.53.

I could not get the G650 revC drivers to work on the revB card. It was telling me that I wa missing a file. Also you say that the WPA2 is not stable.

Is there a sure way to fix this problem?

On my DI-624 revC with FW 2.76, I'm using WPA with either AES or TKIP w/o any issues. WPA2 still is not stable despite what the changelogs say.

For my DWL-G520 I use the Atheros drives since the D-Link ones seemed to cause intermittent pauses when accessing the network.

This is a good archive of Atheros stuff...the guy is one of the members of this forum. Get the 4.2.2.27 installer and then upgrade the driver to 4.2.2.33.

As for the DWL-G650, I followed a Microsoft KB article on WPA2 and installed the DWL-G650 revC drivers 3.18 (force it to use the revC driver) during installation.

Just make sure you uninstall all of the current D-Link sofware and reboot before installing the stuff above.

This is my Network Setup:

D-Link DI-624 with 2.76 firmware
D-Link DWL-G520 Rev A2 (Driver 2.48 latest)
D-Link DWL-G650 Rev B3 (Driver 2.53 latest)

All equipment supports the WPA or WPA2 encryption. Even though I have the D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G Configuration Utility installed for both cards, I use the "Use windows to configure the wireless settings".

Operating system: Win XP Prof SP2

Currently both cards see the router and I can access web and network from each PC, but it is with the WEP encryption. However, when I set the router to WPA-TKIP PSK and then the same setting for each card this is what I get.

The G650 sees the wireless network, but cannot connect. The G520 does not see any networks at all. I spent countless hours with the D-Link support, but they could not fix the problem.

This is what I have in the router wireless tab:

Wireless Radio: On
SSID : dlink
Channel : 6 Auto Select: off
Super G Mode : Disabled
Extended Range Mode : Disabled
WMM Function (Wireless Qos): Disabled
802.11g Only Mode : Disabled
SSID Broadcast : Enabled
Security : WEP
Authentication : Open System
WEP Encryption : 64Bit
Key Type : HEX

The funny thing that it was working before, but I had to re-install windows and after the re-install I cannot get it to work.

I checked and rechecked the security phrase, I disabled DHCP, I upgraded the router firmware, I rebooted the router several times, but nothing helps.

I am not sure if I need to use the AEGIS Protocol WPA supplicant. When I tried to installed on the PC with the G520 card, I got the message that it was already installed.

At this point I am at a loss.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.
