Re: Comcast HD questions

In the bay area you get all local channels + Discovery in HD if you use your TV tuner.

That could work for the plasma IF its digital tuner supported QAM based channels (what cable uses). If it does, you should be able to just do a channel scan and have any unencrypted channels (including the HDs) come up and be viweable. If they are encrypted however, you won't see/hear anything. Some areas do encrypt the HD locals (mine does) while others do not. It would be worth a try at first.

Hi, I have very limited knowledge about HD channels and had a few questions. Currently I have Comcast (Bay Area) and we have a HD digital cable box which we use to with our projector to watch tv shows and movies in HD on a screen. I noticed that with comcast, their HD channels are numbered in the 700's. My friend has given me her 50" Philips Plasma TV which should have a built in HD Tuner. My dilemma is that the new tv is going into my room and we only have one cable box which is in the living room. My question is, can I just plug a coax cable in my room to the plasma and watch shows in HD? I know that the tv cannot get to the 700 channels so will the regular fox, nbc, etc HD shows (channels 2, 5, 7) still show up in HD without comcast's digital cable box? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
