How about adding the forum name to the ticker and maybe implementing the mouse-over preview like the forums have?

Can forums have a choice to be alphabetical?

It may just be me, but I have a dickens of a time on occasion with spotting a forum.

Recent example was a firewall question thread that I wanted to move from software to Security.
(Let me explain that I mostly sit back in the chair with a big trackball)
I couldn't spot Security... had to finally grab the keyboard and ctrl-F

And when I go to all forums, trying to remember where dev/null is situated.

They are organized by categories, and I guess we get used to them...but it also seems like I hit two different layouts depending on what I am trying to do.
And look for Security Vendors in a different section than Security.

Just wishing.....

Today I've been hitting up the following urls ..

»/speedtest
now shows your last result right under the server status if there is one to find.
Also, speed results page now includes plea for anonymous users to review their ISP. Maybe it is working, we're getting a lot more ISP reviews today than yesterday.

fixed the page up, was including too many days and taking too long to construct

Fixed up the layout to be more logical, to put the most frequently used tests at the top.

minor format change to make FAQ header look cleaner

Also the link to 'review your ISP' is nicer now, it shows direct links to the most commonly reviewed ISPs instead of asking the user to go off and use site search to find the ISP. I really want to fix up the "unassociated review" system, the current one just isn't working well!

whoops, ok, it is just a cache issue. It'll work right shortly.

Why are the caches so slow anyway? I make changes to my posting tag and it takes hours and hours to change, like about 3. I also see compaints about avatar changes, too. Is there something inherently slow in the design that keeps these changes from being made any sooner? Just curious, I know it's not the biggest thing on your plate.

there isn't any cache invalidation done when people change their profile, thats all the issue is. Some of the avatar (gif) caches are beyond our control though.

FastEddie's idea is a good one. Another useful link for a prominent place on the tools page is a link to »Tools FAQ »Tweak Test - Speed Test Problems .

Maybe "If Test Results Don't Display".

How about a link back to the Forum from a Forum FAQ at the top of those FAQ pages.

Example: Link back to the Belkin Forum from the Belkin FAQ. From »Belkin Equipment Forum FAQ to »Belkin.

Good suggestion as I have done that many times also. I know that one doesn't go to the all forums page...but I forget with two buttons for "forums" which does which.

sure, but these type of requests are veering straight back to forum/post related requests.
