1 edit | I'm dedicating most code changes/improvements to .. .. the NON FORUM parts of the site for the next few weeks or months. I think they have languished for too long. The ISP listings, tests and tools, all that good stuff.
So if you post your wish here, or bring up an old one, and it can be done without taking too long, it might get done.
In the last few days I've been tweaking * speed tests * line quality test * member test history * finding ISPs and lodging ISP reviews * home page news article layouts * navigation
as well as rationalizing hardware, ordering more, etc.
and I want to do more of this type of work.

Good. That is what I was thinking you had done but wanted to be sure. It was sort of misleading before (at least for me). Thanks! Nice improvement.
Tools page is neat and nice looking now.
What's with the Port-scan? I haven't used it in awhile so I don't how long it has been offline. Is it coming back?

2 edits | Today I've been hitting up the following urls ..
»/speedtest now shows your last result right under the server status if there is one to find. Also, speed results page now includes plea for anonymous users to review their ISP. Maybe it is working, we're getting a lot more ISP reviews today than yesterday.
»/badrouters fixed the page up, was including too many days and taking too long to construct
»/tools Fixed up the layout to be more logical, to put the most frequently used tests at the top.
»Tools FAQ minor format change to make FAQ header look cleaner
Also the link to 'review your ISP' is nicer now, it shows direct links to the most commonly reviewed ISPs instead of asking the user to go off and use site search to find the ISP. I really want to fix up the "unassociated review" system, the current one just isn't working well!

What I'd like to know is why has the site kept a security scan test from 2001, several from 2002 and several from 2003 but won't let me keep speed test results older than 6 months? I know I can delete the security scans but why does the site auto delete speed tests after six months and not security scans for six years?!
I would find it useful to have kept some old speed tests but there is no button to do that. I don't need any of the old security scans...I've just been lazy about deleting them and kept thinking the site would. -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy." I'm not getting those speeds now, but it looks good on the map and I've had some fun with it. But are my speed results useful to others if the look at the map, no. I'm not getting you. You can delete items from your own test history because people don't like clutter. In your case you are choosing to leave them around. Can things in the endeffect theme be fixed? There is no load bar, no topic points, and no inbound links displayed.
Also, the background of the "news" and "forums" on the ticker doesn't change when I click them, that's no big deal though. -- DSLR tools Journal

»/prefs/boxes
May be there's a way that I haven't figured out yet but currently, once you create a custom RSS feed on that page, it's going to stay there forever even if the link no longer works. You wouldn't be able to edit it either if you typed the link wrong and you could eventually end up with a cluttered and inaccurate list. -- You can catch the Devil, but you can't hold him long.

| Today I fixed up the way comments attached to news articles appear for logged out users. (removed the useless thumbs-up icon, cleaned up the format a bit. Also completely removed a view style that almost nobody used that was nearly broken anyway).
Also added the instant message pages to the navigation bar (Your.. IMs)
Made various changes to improve the experience for anonymous users.
Also changed the default 'i see people' format to be a little more compact, but clearer.
Possibly also added code to invalidate a cache when user profiles are changed, such that the changes will show up immediately.

»Why do I see double posts?
Using Flat view, I no longer see a blue background and don't seem to be missing posts any longer. However, the second page of posts is all repeat posts from the first page but not all posts are repeated (about the last half are repeated). This is happening in IE6, Fx 1.5.0.7, SeaMonkey 1.3 and Opera 9.
In this one they start being repeated on the second page with Scree's post: »/forum/news,78···start=20 -- "If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy." Ross Anderson in "`Trusted Computing' Frequently Asked Questions"

So, I don't know if this is intermittent or what. But everything is fine at the moment. Let's hope it stays that way.
