Burner w/ Liggy and Dee now slower, why?

I have an NEC 3520a. It used to take about 7-8 minutes to burn an entire 4.7 size DVD. I tried a different firmware, a Mad dog version. Things went as slow as over an hour to burn one. Then I flashed to Liggy and Dee's, Burns now take 9-10 minutes. Could my burner be dieing, or is it the firmware?

I am perplexed, this firmware is supposed to speed things up.

Liggy and Dee's firmware isn't designed to speed up burning, it is primarily to speed up ripping. Using their version often lets you select a higher burn speed than the discs are rated for, but I've found that if you go too high with it, the error rate ends up increasing burn time.

Yeah, well, some burns are taking 14 minutes. But my whole system has been acting crappy for the last month actually, even in Linux.

I might also have a messed up HD, I don't know.
