Just remember that taking pictures of a full moon is not the best. You need it to be side lit to get the best contrast and relief/shadows from the surface.

I will not be able to see it. Clouds cover the sky all around.

Same here. It's been raining all day and will not end until tomorrow.

The moon was indeed spectacular today. Strolling around tonight, I had a mind blowing sunset on one side of me, the full moon rising on the other. Sometimes its nice to put down the camera. Throw in the foliage and the evening was stunning.

The things that are becoming my new best friends.

But surprisingly it is clearing here in Portland in time for sunset.....might clear out for the rest of the night....

Sometimes it is better without the details.

Peak is at 11pm local time?

It seemed to be the biggest at around 6pm, and is really small now at 10:42.

An interesting read about the Harvest Moon:

»science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006···ight.htm

This bright moon does provide some unique opportunities for taking some interesting landscape shots by moonlight.

Well, I was out taking some photographs when I glanced over my shoulder and saw a big orange moon rising. Whoa, I had neglected to check the moon phase. I wasn't in an ideal location, but I took a couple shots with the horizon that I had before me. It's a road running up the hill with the harvest moon coming up behind. Exposure for both the moon and any foreground details can be a bit tricky.

Sky is clouded over here tonight, But the sunset was spectacular (and me without my Canon). My cataract ridden, macular degenerative father-in-law said "wow, what's the saying 'red sky at night'" during my 10yr olds soccer game. Now that's a bright sky!

I'm really looking forward to NoelC See Profile's images. While we are all waiting for him to post, I'll leave you w/ my humble attempt at capturing the moon.

Nice job Jason, but I have a feeling that Noel was busy with other pursuits tonight. There are other moon phases that show more crater detail and are better for Noel's caliber of astrophotography anyway.

Nice shot Judd, but I'm just imagining myself decending that hill on my Bianchi, but I guess that's a different obsession. I don't know a lot about HDR (do I have the right term?) but from the pics I've seen in this forum that would probably be the best option for catching it all. But what do I know, I'm still a newbie to this forum, lots to learn, up till now just observing.

Just watch out for bison on the road! Your riding through the Konza Prairie preserve.

HDR images can help, but they are sometimes hard to put together so that they look natural. My photograph somewhat overexposed the moon and then brough back some of the detail through a bit of burning with Photoshop.
