| Is Comcast coming to upstate SC?
Our local channels do not broadcast into any area that has Comcast cable. Past 3 days we are being bombarded with assorted Comcast commercials. Does this mean there is a possibility the upstate of South Carolina is fixing to dump Charter and become Comcast? |

1 edit | Very doubtful. Comcast has been advertising for a long time on Charter channels around here. Comcast is less than 1/2 mile down the road from me, but I seriously doubt if the village board will ever let them in. Charter knows this so can advertise Comcast on their channels. It's all about that advertising dollar!! -- Spread Zenwalk Linux 3.0 |

2 edits | reply to rid0617 Comcast does National Advertising they started doing that about a year and a half ago. So if Comcast takes out advertising with a particular network or local channel theirs not much that Charter or any other cable company can do about it. Kind of the same way with Bellsouth commercials.
It's doubtful that Charter will cede to be the dominate cable company in the Upstate. I know that they have some areas over in Georgia and some in and just beyond Spartanburg county if I'm remembering right. But considering that Charter was just in the last couple of years renewed a lot of local franchise agreements / contracts in Upstate Sc and that most of them are long contracts it's doubtful. I think they'll be here until the bitter end for most of the franchises in our area. -- "Sir SIR! We don't use DHCP servers. We only use IBM & Microsoft servers." | Varlik is completely correct, Comcast starting national advertising so everyone sees it.
I disagree, however, with the statement that charter will not cede portions. They just sold a bunch of stuff that wasnt making money, I wouldnt be surprised if more moarkets were sold. (mainly the non-upgrade ones). I was not aware a franchise agreement prohibited Charter from selling it to anyone. You have anything to support that? I would be interested to see it.. |
