Does the network to which you connect have encryption enabled? If so have you set up the correct encryption key for that network?
Does the router implement MAC address filtering as an added security feature? If so, the "owner" of that router may need to add your wireless card's MAC address into the list of authorized clients.
Once connected to the router, go into a command prompt and type the command "ipconfig /all". That should show you the IP address settings the router assigned. If you are connecting to the router and getting a valid IP address, it should look something like 192.168.x.y.
Also... a word of advice. Don't use the belkin utility to manage your connection. Set up windows XP to allow its built-in WZC to manage the connection. If you uninstall the Belkin client and drivers, you should be able to just install the network drivers by using the Windows Device Manager. Then configure your wireless network connection properties by selecting the option to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings". -- "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not one bit simpler."- Albert Einstein |
