Re: [HSI] 1.5/128 HSI?

The HD boxes in St Louis are the best quality boxes in my opinion. I hear good rumors about whats coming in terms of the next gen HD boxes. Glad your modem issue was worked out...

It is very unlikely your modem was provisioned at 1.5 MBs. What did they say the problem was?

Hi, thanks for taking the time to post. I was able to get it worked out and re-configged with the modem I had. Apparently there were other problems with the way the account was set up. It's working great now and I couldn't be happier.

The sync and ready lights were solid. I wasn't able to get anywhere but the modem config - couldn't get an external IP address. No pings came back. This was with multiple restarts of the modem and computer, and everything on the PC set to automatic.

So, it works great now with my Windows XP/Vista box. Don't know why, but neither Mac we have will connect consistently when plugged directly into the modem. Sometimes they work, more often they don't and can't get an external IP. I'll have to work with them - I know it's not the modem now because it works great with the PC.

As far as CATV, I just got Digital Big + Showtime to start. I thought the standard box was available with something other than composite out, but the tech said he hadn't seen any recently. So, since I've got an HDTV, I signed up today to switch the box out and am looking forward to having the HD box installed in a couple of weekends.

Well Dave, while I am unfamiliar with the troubleshooting you have done over the phone and personally..

That provisioning in "Operation Configuration" is wrong.

It should read:

Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 3146000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 256000

Although technically 3meg is : 3145728

And 256 or .25 Mbits is : 262144

Anyhow, the provisioning is wrong, though I wonder , as you say you cannot connect to the internet in any form what the modem is doing specifically.

I assume it is an Ambit 6067EU,.. So what are the modem lights doing?

Specifically,.. Is the Sync and Ready light solid?

Is the Ready light blinking constantly?

Just to answer your question, while I'm sure you know it, no there is no doubling that occurs with the provisioned rate.

If your ready light is solid, then what are your signal levels on the other pages of the diagnostics -- Mainly ..

The "Downstream" and "Upstream" links --

Even if it is not solid, you could go ahead and paste those.

Also, I'm curious,.. in your "Operation Configuration" link,.. Does it say:

Network Access : Allowed

Maximum Number of CPEs : 1

Finally,.. can you go to a dos prompt -- (Start-->Run-->"cmd" --

Then type in

ping 192.168.100.1

I'm sure it will ping successfully , since you are able to access the modems webserver.

How about ping 4.2.2.2

I'm sure it will not be able to reach the destination, but just curious if there might be a browser setting out of sync or some such.

Though, if the ready light is not solid, you are not fully acquired on both ranging processes. Which is why I am curious of the other stuff.

Though,.. most likely, as everyone has indicated this is more than a provisioning problem alone, else, you would be able to surf the net, just at 1.5/128.

But,.. If you have called in and they could not get your up and running online,.. it just sounds odd to me.

If the provisioning did not change to what I mentioned, they couldn't communicate, or did not communicate with your modem. Remotely they should be able to change your provisioning, and while doing so remove any restrictions that may have been placed on that MAC Addy.

In any event, I would call back in either way -- If the Modems ready light is , indeed, solid -- and your signals are in range,.. Then I would think they should be able to, over the phone, get you running. Even if they have to de-provision the modem completely, and re-prov it to your package.

If the modem is flaky, then they will need to roll a truck for another modem to be delivered anyways, so the call is inevitable. Unless, of course, you want to save Charter money, and perhaps yourself some time by going to your local office.. Returning the modem, and getting a new one provisioned *There* and bring it back home to hook up.

Btw,.. (I'm not trying to insult your intelligence) but if the lights are proper, and the signals as well (refer to the sticky at the top of the forum for signals) then you should be able to access the internet. Which is why I asked you to ping the level 3,.. 4.2.2.2 -- If you get replies back from it, then you are online, and it is simply a local setting/configuration on your machine/router etc.

Curious, -- What did the CSR on the phone do as a resolution?

Ok *Doh* -- I just re-read your post, and you plan on getting it swapped out tomorrow -- So you can bother with all of that or not.. (Even though it's a few seconds of work hehe) -- I'm sure if someone is coming to swap it out , everything will be straightened out. I'm just somewhat leery at the modem being *bad*. Though I can see another one fixing the issue regardless.

Enjoy your Charter! What package did you get on the CATV?

Let me guess, he brought you a used modem? My guess is that it is still on a suspended account from a previous customer that had that 1.5meg package in the past.
Couldn't say, really. It was out of the box, but it looks pretty new, and the AC adapter was wrapped up in its box.

What exactly does your work order say? It is provisioned wrong. Your right, we haven't had that package for a while. I'm curious, PM me your MAC and I'll see what they did.
PMed - Work order indicates 3meg HSI ordered. I'm thinking now that I should have gone ahead and let him install it to test it, but I figured that with what I know about computers, it was an easy $50 to save.

its provisioned wrong or the modem has a problem and will not take the correct package. i would hope the rep checked provisioning before rolling a truck.

I just had 3/256 HSI & CATV set up yesterday, and am having issues with the modem I received. After doing troubleshooting by myself and on the phone, it's been determined that I may already have a bad modem. I plan to get it swapped out tomorrow, but I wanted to get thoughts on what I found on the config page of the modem (Ambit):

Maximum Downstream Data Rate: 1500000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate: 128000

Haven't heard of 1.5/128 cable in a while - is there doubling that occurs somewhere, or is this just capped wrong?

edit: I probably should clarify that I can't access the internet at all - me poking around in the config page was due to boredom - by not being able to get in the internet.
