| Netgear wg311v3 kills / freezes XP networking until reboot
originally posted by nickbb:
Dell, P4 1.8 system. Just installed WG311v3 with latest drivers (5/16/05 initial and latest drivers) from netgear. This replaces an older Netgear MA111 .11b USB adapter.
Router: WGR614v6 (firmware Version 1.0.11 Jan. 17, 2006)
Problem is that the system will constantly lock up or disconnect. When it locks up, I can not disable, repair, release/renew the wireless connection. Very slow.
Sometimes, the connection will disconnect but the signal strength will be great. In this state, I am unable to actually get any data out or in.
Any ideas? I also have a WG511 for a dell laptop and that wireless connection is always connected.
I initially tried using the Netgear utility to control the wireless connection but the connection would drop/lockup the PC. I've disabled this and used microsoft to handle the wireless connection and the same problem exists.

This also happens to me. As soon as something interrupts the connection, you're f*ed and have to restart windows because no networking type stuff will respond at all. This is absolutely absurd but of course Netgear would never admit this, they just suggest stupid crap and make it sound like its the user's fault. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
This is my third card... my last one (linksys wmp54gs) would only connect to my router which is 5 feet away at 1Mbps. Sometimes it would drop the signal and I couldnt reconnect until I reboot. (But it wouldnt lock up windows)
I'm tired of paying money on cards and I need one that actually does what it's supposed to do. Why do businesses take my money and give me something that only partially works? |

| I can think of a few things which you don't mention, that might be useful. •Have you done a WiFi site survey, to see what interference (analogue and digital) you might be suffering from? »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/06/a···ent.html •How about seeing what your computer is doing, when it locks up? »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/04/w···ing.html •And do you install the latest drivers, when you install a new card? »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/d···ems.html •And if you install a new card, do you make sure that you don't have two (or more) WiFi clients running, at any time? »nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/01/s···ifi.html -- Cheers, Chuck MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] PChuck's Network |
