| FIOS - Post installation questions
Hi all,
Just got FIOS on Tuesday installed. Two separate guys came out for the install. The first person started at 8:30am and the second guy finished at 6:30pm .
So far, I'm liking the service BUT, there seems to be a few issues. I want to get your opinions on this since I'm a n00b about FIOS.
1. One of the STB's sound quality sounds like audio from a streaming video on the internet. I fiddled around with the audio options on the Motorola, but nothing seems to work. The two other boxes I have sound find. The only difference with this STB setup is that the installer used two splitters to bring both the STB signal and VOD through a single coax. I'll sometimes get pixelation too. Could this be causing a problem?
Rough splitter diag : Outside wiring=====>-------=====Inside house
2. Since Tuesday, I've had to restart the Actiontec twice already because everything seemed to have locked up. I've got the latest firmware installed. Is there something I'm missing or is the Actiontec just junk?
3. Using Speakeasy's Speedtest, if I test to DC (I'm in suburbs of DC) I get about 11/1.8. If I try testing to anywhere else, my speed is anywhere from 1.8/1.8 (WA State) to 8/1.8 (Atlanta). Is this normal?
Thanks! |

| I only have the interent portion of FIOS, in regards to the Actiontec, I experienced the same problem, numerous times. I would have reset the ont box in the basement. Sometimes this did not work, and they had to make house calls. They replaced the router, didn't' solve the problem. I finally took it out and put my Linksys back in, smooth sailing since. AS far as speeds, mine where pretty much at the stated rate. Though I did having routing issues in the beginning, those problems have been corrected. You may have a problem dumping the router, because some of the TV features are depended on it. Call and bitch if you can't solve it. They are very responsive and helpful |

Definite sounds like a signal quality problem.

My Actiontec has only locked once in all the months I've had it. You've confirmed your box has the .120 firmware? I wonder if a signal quality problem could be causing problems with the router as well.
The Actiontec hardware is better / faster / more capable than just about every consumer router available.

Is this wired or wireless? Did you do the tweak at Verizon Central? |

I haven't done any type of tweaks yet. What is this tweak you mentioned?
Thanks |

1 edit | There is a Verizon tool to adjust your rwin value, and maybe other things. You need to do this on each computer. See:
»netservices.verizon.net/portal/s···ptimizer
I think this is what KenAF refers to.
Edit: It looks like the link, above, doesn't go directly to the test. It will get you to the help page, and you can find the test from there.
It also only works with Internet Explorer. |
