[Help] Is anyone else seeing this problem on FXNetworks?

I'm going to www.FXnetworks.com to check out the line up schedule for the show "The Shield."

If I go to Shows and click on The Shield the next screen I get is this:

Ok so I followed the install link but instead of Flash it took me to the Shockwave installer. In checking on the Adobe site I have verified that I have the latest Flash and Shockwave software running.

Is anyone else seeing this or something similar? I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.7 for my browser.

What version of Shockwave Flash are you showing installed?

Check in "about:plugins"

It plays for me with version 9.

My IE is locked down so tight the site doesn't even work with it. I may open it up later for testing.

I tried some other Flash and Shockwave sites and all appears ok in Fx.

9.0 r16. That's what shows doing a Flash/Shockwave check on the Adobe site. »www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/

That's the same version I'm using.

Do you have any extensions such as NoScript, Adblock, etc that might be blocking it?

How about your Host file? Anything there?

BTW, I have NoScript, but I do not allow anything on that site. I also have Adblock using Rick's EasyList and EasyList Elements, but nothing has been changed.

No NoScript or AdBlock in use. I do use a Hosts file but do not see any conflicts. I even disabled it to check, no change. I do have Java and Javascript enabled.

Let me clear my cache folder and try again. It appears both Flash and Shockwave are working fine on this computer.

In checking all the Flash links under "Shows" I find that most work however with a few I get the same message screen. The ones that don't work are "The Shield", "Black White", "Fear Factor", "King of the Hill" and "DVD on TV", all the rest work fine.

Okay, I get the same thing you do, so I'm going to suspect it's a problem on there end, not with your/our browsers.

They're doing a really stupid check to see if you have IE or not. If you're not it redirects you to a "No Flash" page.

Here's a link to the show sites (They work in Firefox no problem):

The Shield: »www.fxnetworks.com/shows/origina···ain.html
Black.White: »www.fxnetworks.com/shows/origina···ain.html
Fear Factor: »www.fxnetworks.com/shows/hits/fe···ain.html
King of the Hill: »www.fxnetworks.com/shows/hits/ki···ain.html
DVD on TV: »www.fxnetworks.com/shows/origina···ain.html

When you get that No Flash error, all you basically have to do is change the "noflash.html" at the end of the URL for these sites to "main.html"

Yep .. gotta love Fox. They don't want you to use Firefox ... it's got that there ad blocking thingie in it. Let's force them to use IE.

Want to really go crazy on that site? Go to the main page with cookies rejected and try to "Skip Intro" .... it won't! ... and to make it worse, the flash preview keeps looping.
Arrrgh!

Once I enabled a session cookie for it, it was ok even though I had to use Schrade's links to see any shows because it also did the same thing to me with the show links using Flash 9.

Actually Rick, I don't gotta love 'em.
In fact, they can shove their whole website up inside a place where the sun don't shine, as far as I'm concerned.
The last time I visited that site will be . . well, the last time I visited the site.
Just my humble. YMMV.

Well how bout that? Learned something new. Thanks Schrade.
Sneaky little sonofa... huh(FXnetworks that is)? Like I mentioned earlier I couldn't even get past the intro screen in my IE it's locked down so tight.

Perhaps this is worthy of a News item. Maybe we can get people to slam FXNetworks and it'll grow and shame them into changing things.

The only reason I was going there was to find out when the season opener of "The Shield" is. Great show. Still couldn't find it..duh!

Actually, you could try sending an E-Mail to their webmaster or contact and tell them that their pages work just fine in Firefox and there's no need at all for that stupid browser sniffing code they're using.

Maybe you can find what your're looking for here?

EDIT: There's also this:

quote:
The sixth season will consist of ten episodes scheduled to begin filming in April 2006, for broadcast late 2006 or early 2007.

Creator Shawn Ryan had stated that this may be the last season, but on June 5, 2006 FX announced it would bring The Shield back for a seventh and final season.

Production of the 13-episode slate is scheduled to start in mid-2007 and is expected to air in late 2007 or early 2008.

According to The Shield's IMDb.com page "On The Jones" the first episode of the sixth season airs on January 9, 2007.

Thanks....Now I could have sworn I remember seeing commercials saying the new season was starting in October 2006. I might have had that confused with another series though.

I'm sure nothing is carved in stone. I just happened to find that on wikipedia.org. No telling how old it is or how often they update it.

I did a Google search for the show and just started looking at links.
