I called today to get my bill adjusted and accidentally chose the "cancel" account prompt...so that sent me to an account rep.
Anyways after talking with the guy, he said they have a new plan...it's $139.99 a month for Digital Vision, 1 HD-DVR, HBO tier, and the full phone package (unlimited local/long distance, pick 5 phone options, etc etc), and the 20mbps internet.
Pretty sweet deal. So I took it.
It does not include taxes though. But I'm figuring taxes would be $20. So that's around $160/month.
Not sure if this pricing plan is for everyone, or just the Lehigh Valley, so call up and check it out.

Really?! That would save me about $50/month having Digital Vision, the DVR, & HBO all rolled in. I'll have to call and see what info I get.

And good luck mightyhog, I told the guy to please note in my account the package as what one RCN rep says, another one will say something COMPLETELY different. But he put in the notes the complete package details and the price.

FIOS will be launching very soon for businesses in the Allentown/Easton/Bethlehem area.
Most lines are already layed and installed in Allentown for the businesses that have contracts with Verizon.
Probably looking at a 1+ year wait for general public to get it in my area.

I recently jumped to FIOS for internet and kept RCN for TV (mostly because FIOS doesn't offer NESN in HD) Fios Internet has been terrific so far. RCN Mach 10 was good, but not nearly what was advertised. I'd be skeptical about getting the full speed especially at peak times.
What i found very interesting RCN actually RAISED my TV rates when i called to cancel my internet service. If i wasn't buying into a bundled package they were gonna put the screws to me. Hopefully they'll change their tune once FIOS offers NESN HD or i'll be switching. |

I can max out my line at 20mbps at almost ALL times downloading from newsgroups.
Sometimes it jumps down to as low as 18.70mbps, but almost always snag from newsgroups at a full 20.40mbps.
Keep in mind, I'm using giganews and not RCN's newsserver.

| Ok. This is promotional pricing for 12 months. I was able to get $30 knocked off my bill. An HBO promotion ended on Friday. That would have brought my bill in line with that $139.99 deal. Basically, just call every 12 months to get promotional pricing.

Yup, that's what he told me...it's a 1 year promotion...but when that's up, we should have FIOS in our area and prices will come down even more. If not they'll stay the same or lower a little bit.

That's a good thing. Because I already know when I get my bill next month it's going to be wrong and an RCN billing rep will tell me "Sorry, we've never heard of such a promotional package". LOL.
Then I can point them here.
