[Telco] Check your FSLC taxes!

Alert to everyone using RCN telephone service. DOUBLE CHECK your Federal Subscriber Line Charge (FSLC)...according to the FCC, a telco provider CANNOT charge more than $6.50/month for one phone line.

My current bill states they charged me $17.86. That's $11.36 MORE than Federal Law allows.

While I was on the phone with RCN today I pointed this out and said I am being nice by not reporting this to the FCC and giving you guys a change to correct it. Of course, she couldn't touch the taxes...but apparently she sent a ticket to the "back office" to correct it. I'm going to call on Monday to see if anything was done to correct it.

Here's the law:

and here is where you can file a complaint with the FCC:

Re: [Telco] Check your FSLC taxes!

Just another reason I'm glad I dropped RCN phone service and went to Vonage... still playing $22.95/mo total for 500-min. per month plus a virtual number in Clearwater [for the in-laws to keep in touch without running up their LD bill]. Looks like they were charging you almost that just in an illegal FSLC...

BTW--when you do get to the point where you need to file that FCC complaint, you'll get a quick response... I filed PUC and FCC complaints on a Saturday afternoon (RCN kept stalling on the transfer of my phone number to Vonage)--I had a call from from a manager in RCN's customer relations department before lunch on Monday in response to the complaint... Guess they like to close those issues up fast to keep Big Brother off their backs...

Nice, thanks for the info, I'm going to be nice and see if RCN adjusts it accordingly on my next bill (I know they won't)...

and then I'll file it as soon as I get my next bill if it's not corrected.

Thanks for the heads up!

Just a little update...the FCC called me today to make sure my RCN bill panned out and I got credited.

Not exactly a quick response, but my bill was finally credited Nov 13th for those charges (and if you were following my other billing threads, I was finally moved to the proper $139.99 bundle plan).
