| Well, as far as I can tell, they can't..
they were shooting for an IPO. Their last filed results to support this IPO, to march 2000, was a loss of 3.2 million, but gee, who wouldn't want to invest their retirement money in one of "the top 10 internet media properties" according to the rating agencies.
In fact the latest jupiter report has them at #5 due to these pop-unders.
On September 26th, 2001 (a few weeks ago) they withdrew the IPO plan..
I wonder if the adverts will soon vanish. One can hope [text was edited by author 2001-11-01 16:50:55] |

| reply to ddavtian Well, I have ordered from them on a few occasions. Once they double-charged my credit card... took them a week to refund the 2nd charge. And once the charged me 7 times!!! Fortunately that was a small purchase, so it didn't bust my account. My point is, maybe this is how they can afford all those ads... they "temporarily" overcharge their customers (the people who, possibly, are responding to all those ads in the first place). The interest they collect from the extra charges funds their advertising budget. Now THAT'S a scary conspiracy theory! |
