| Netgear WG511v2 on windows 98se?
Hey guys, this is my first post here.
Its good to find a place like this.
Anywhoo, Im having troubles getting my wifi card to work. Its a pcmcia Netgear WG511v2...
Its running on a old mini Toshiba Libretto 50ct (75mhz processor) which is running windows 98SE.
Now the problem im having is, when i try to run the netgear smartstart wizard or whatever its called, it pops up then shuts down straight away...?
Any ideas on whats causing this and how to fix?
Thanks in advance fella's...

| One problem may be the fact that the WG511v2 card uses CardBus technology. Does your laptop have a cardbus PCMCIA slot? My guess is that it does not...

If not, your out of luck trying to use that card and need to purchase another non-CardBus card... -- "When all else fails, read the instructions..." |

| reply to Oddz If you want wireless for using open hotspots, get an old Prism2.5 or 3 card or an ORiNOCO Gold Classic card. This list will tell you what to look for (and good luck finding new - this is an eBay kind of thing): »www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_ada···.html.gz
If you need WPA security, I know of no cards that are not Cardbus. -- TSA "security" officer: "I don't like going through people's underwear as much as they don't." OC Register article |

| 16 bit = PC Card (PCMCIA). 32 bit = Cardbus.
The MA401 is a PCMCIA card, Prism chipset. WEP only, no WPA. It should work, but not securely.

I checked it and it says the pc card slots are 32bit...? Does that mean it has cardbus? |

| Doubtful. This is what the spec sheet says:
1 x PC Card Type II slot memory expansion (SIMMs), Mini Card Station additional provides: 1 x PC Card Typ III slot. »resource.toshiba-europe.com/euro···50_e.pdf
