Cyberonic - a complete joke.

Man, these guys really tick me off... Last time I will ever use them.

I have had an account with them for nearly two years now. Last Feb. their old supplier got bought out, and all their customers had to switch to a new supplier (internet went down, got new equipment etc)... Along with this, apparently came a card that said something along the lines of "If you don't send this card back to cancel your account, you agree to being signed up to a new 1 year contract, with termination fees"...

Basically, the worst kind of mail-outs...

So, I am now moving house, and having a new baby. I have no idea when I am going to get internet signed up at my new house, so I wanted to cancel my account. I really didn't think there would be any problem, since I have been customers of THEIRS (NOT THEIR SUPPLIER) for nearly two years now. So, I call them to cancel. The first guy I spoke to sounded like he was asleep (and that is being polite), the second guy "bill" was no help at all..

It seems, that they really don't like existing customers. Even though I have been a customer of theirs for 19months, they still want to charge me an early termination fee of $250. A few more minutes of arguing got this down to $150, which is still rediculous..

It isn't my fault that they had to change suppliers, and I shouldn't be held responsible for the fees that come around because of that.

For people thinking about signing up with these guys, also check out the better business beureau - seems like these guys get a lot of complaints... enough for the BBB NOT to recommend them.. I wonder if you can get an award for that.

It was right on their web site, it was in the original emails, and it is a Covad provision that is the same with other Covad providers.

That said, congratulations on at least getting them down to $150, which isn't too bad......

The OP is MOVING to somewhere Cyberonic DOESN'T OFFER SERVICE. They should let him out of the contract for ZERO BUCKS, or provide the service at his new location. If they can't fulfill their end of the bargain, the OP should be able to void the contract at NO CHARGE. $150.00 to end a contract for service no longer available to the OP "isn't too bad" ONLY if YOU don't have to be the one paying it.

Stop sucking up, stop apologizing for unsupportable Cyberonic policies, and be aware that the $250.00 penalty fee has NOTHING whatsoever to do with COVAD's lame ass "provisions".

Yes it does. The other COVAD providers including LBDSL, a frequent and popular particpant on these forums, and others, have exactly the same provisions or even more stringent ones. I have posted links before.

There is nothing improper about a fixed-term contract and no reason why anyone should be "let out of it".

Bullshit! In the OPs case, there is more than ample justification; HE's MOVING! Even the dildos at Cyberonic ought to understand that...
