it's just speedboost. chicago's had it since june 1 i believe...temporarily increases download speeds for like 10 seconds (to 20+ sometimes) but upload stays the same. |

To those who replied. Yes I am from Quincy MA and recieved the 16Meg letter Tuesday. Tuesday night I Definitely had the new speeds. They were sustianed and not powerboost. Wasnt even the type of transfers Powerboost applys to. I was seeing sustained 10-12Meg. I exchanged my old SB4100 Wednesday suspecting he may of been the culprit. They gave me a SB4220. New Speeds are now Gone. I definitely have a capped 8Meg. Im assuming its because of the Modems new MAC address or something similar in regards to the modem. The letter did say the upgrade was for "existing" 8Meg customers only. Im guessing they may have sent out the 16Meg .cfgs by MAC address and not by speed tier. Since I really hate dealing with comcast to change anything , I am gonna give it a few more days. So just a warning to existing 8Meg customers who are considering swapping modems. |

Did you call to verify what config file you have?
Config files are not MAC dependant, rather account dependant.
If all checks out above, go to your local office and see if the have an SB5120. Dump the SB4220.

I havent called about sorting it out yet. Im hoping in a few days Id get the new .cfg w/o calling.
Reasons for not calling : I once called for a password reset & they managed to add & bill an entire 2nd Internet account. They told me I had to pay the 1st bill & then they would fix it lol.
If I call I'll probably wind up with a 6meg .cfg and the TV boxes will stop working 
I'll probably wait until next week before I deal with them. |

| Wonder if Baltimore County, MD will get 16/1. Supposedly FIOS will be coming here soon. I wouldn't be surprised if the 16/1 speeds came shortly after. I tried the online chat but the rep just told me he had no clue and to check the "whats available in my area" feature on comcast.com. 
On a side note, if FIOS becomes available the 16/1 upgrade won't matter. I'll be switching to FIOS ASAP. (No offense comcast... lol) |

Not sure if this is powerboost or not, but im getting constant 1.5mb+ a second downloading rate for minutes at a time here at Burlington, NJ.
I tired downloading a 50mb file and for the entire time it was downloading, it never made it under 1.75mb a second rate. |

I got the letter (Honey Brook, PA) about 10 days ago. I've powercycled the modem and still not getting faster speeds.
I tried online chat tonight and asked if they could check the config file. They checked it and said I had the 8Mg file. I have always had the 8/768 level.
They are saying that my area has not been upgraded (despite the letter). They suggested I call my local office tomorrow morning.
FIOS is not available here |

"local office" ! Everytime I called in from suburban Boston, I used to get Comcast in St John's Newfoundland (where my wife grew up, so we could chat about local stuff). Then one day I got someone in Brighton, Mass, only a few miles from here who told me that would be the local call centre. Ever since then when I call in I get Laredo, Texas...much harder to understand that St John's!  |
