Kenneth > I know you must be asked this alot. Around when will my area recieve the new 16/1 speed increase Rich > Hello, and thank you for contacting Comcast, my name is Rich how can I assist you? Rich > The faster services that you refer to are currently available only in a few select communities at this time. Comcast is always looking at ways to enhance our service. While we cannot say today when the next change will be, we can assure you that a great deal of work is being done to improve all our customers online experience. For instance, over the past two years we have increased our Speed Tier download speed twice, from 3Mbps to 6Mbps without increasing the cost to our subscribers. In addition, we have recently launched our new Power Boost service, which can provide subscribers with (depending on your current level of service) between 12Mbps and 16Mbps burst of download speed automatically when the subscriber is downloading large files.
I apologize for the inconvenience, however it is too early in the process for us to speculate on future availability of the 16 MB service. |

| Well, after several phone calls to Comcast trying to get the date that the Harrisburg area would be upgraded, I gave up and switched. I have had FiOS for a week now and it is fantastic. 15 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up for $10 less than I was paying Comcast for 8M/784K. If they would have made their move earlier in my area, they may have kept me as a customer. -- Wormleysburg, PA |

@24.147.x.x | why would you keep comcast and pay 10 dollars more? the 16/1 speeds would still be slower than fios. |
|
  cantdrive55
@comcast.net | reply to sortofageek I think comcast should of atleast upgraded all the gold tiers first.this would of brought interest to the silver tier people to pay the extra 10 dollars.just my two cents for marketing idea. |

| I think they may not do the Gold first because people tend to whine, lol. If only Gold was upgraded, many of the Silver people would probably complain it. "Why does Gold get upgraded without paying more but not silver? That's not fair... I'm going to switch ISPs..." Mind you just playing Devil's advocate and waiting for the speed upgrades or FIOS to hit where I live

| reply to sortofageek Any word about the speed upgrade coming to Denver any time soon? Comcast is the fastest we have (Qwest is the only other major provider). The 16Mb/sec download is fine and all, but not what I'm looking for, I want the 1Mb/sec upload (I would like more, but doesn't sound like an option).
On a side note I have talked with several Comcast techs and reps and I get a different answer out of all of them. Some say by summer of next year, some say a 10/1 package by march ish... some say they know nothing about it... don't know who to believe. |

I just had the comcast guy here, and he installed a Netgear Router/MOdem, and a cat5 cable for my second PC. I think they pushed the wrong config on my modem, because with the other modem at best I got 720 up, now it's over 900 |

I wonder if tecs are told to go ahead and do the upgrades if they get a roll call or ticket when the speed increases are close. It's not controlled from the home end........How ever new(er) equipment (modem, router nic's) or improved signal (new line, splitters, ground, etc) probably recieves the newest config files, allowing you to max out the connection, which may be spec'ed higher then the advertised rate (to avoid "buyer's remorse") Comcast is constantly improving the plant, and upgrading available bandwidth, and will distribute/disburse/ allocate what the can to avoid the expense of the phone tech or field visit (or worse the negitive feeling/press), because of a "it says 768 up, but I only get 750 (wah, wah, wah)" type complaint. |
