Downloaded and installed it a couple of hours ago from the MS site. Seems to be working fine. Just playing around with it right now.

Did it install the WGA Notification tool (as opposed to the Validation one)?

Thanks!

FTI:
If you get an email from support@microsoft.com with a link to IE7 RC 1, don't go there: A trojan downloader will get installed and set up a backdoor into your computer. The spoofed message's link takes you to a site that looks convincingly similar to a Microsoft page. The trojan installs via an IE browser vulnerability, according to SurfControl, which is tracking the malicious message and its spread around the Net. The scam is especially timely -- Microsoft today released IE7 for Windows XP.

There are numerous reports that IE 7 is not working properly with Outlook Web Access. Has anyone here tested OWA with IE 7 yet?

No problems here - installed on 3 machines without incident. Was already running RC on all three.

On my XP-SP2 HE system with Outlook 2003, mail that is read in anything other than plain text open incredibly slow since updating to IE7. Takes over 2 minutes for some to open. Converting all mail to plain text...they pop right open.

M$ is to greedy and stupid!. How can they pretend to win the Browser war when they are the only ones imposing the stupid Windows Validation Crap. There are millions of illegal copies running around, weather by choice, preloaded OS or M$ validation issues that are not going to be able to upgrade or won't bother to upgrade. Must people will ether switch to another browser, keep what they have or wait for Vista.

Why would a stupid browser need validation? I'll stick with firefox.

You use IE a lot more than that since it is tied to the OS so deeply.

You just don't see it.

I know that but I was talking more towards internet use.

I also agree with dTerminehtor, no one has said anything about piracy here so where I you getting it at?

La Luna, I would say you need to relax. No one wants to hear your fanboy crap here. Fact is Microsoft is greedy, always has been. I don't use IE because of that fact.

Is this a joke? People using cracked copies of XP complaining that MS is greedy because they want them to buy an XP license to install IE7? They are the reason MS needs to validate to begin with, LOL!!!

In the meantime, your friend up there seems to think that "a stupid browser needs[s] validation". Too bad he has no clue about what he's talking about.

Give me a break...

I just installed IE7.0 on my work PC. It doesn't look at all like IE7 on the screenshots. It looks and functions just like IE 6 actually. Here's some screenshots. The version box looks much different from the one posted in this thread.

That's not a screenshot of IE7. The buttons, etc are all different in IE7.

Did you reboot?

Re: IE7.0 Released!

Ok after installing IE7 it restarted, did a bunch of processing after next log on and then logged me off. I logged back on again and got what you see in the screenshots. Thinking maybe Windows is missing something, I turned on Automatic Updates and it installed 20 updates. I restarted the computer and now IE7 doesn't even run. You click on the icon, and you see internet explorer open but then immediately close! IE Tab in firefox doesn't render any pages either.

So I went into add/remove programs and uninstalled the beast. Now I'm back to IE 6.0 and it works correctly.

Strangely enough, I had the Beta version of IE 7.0 on here previously, and that worked correctly.

I'll stick with Firefox. If I really need to render something with the ie engine, that's what ietab is for.

Re: IE7.0 Released!

Because WGA validation is not the problem....WGA NOTIFICATION is the "crap". Two different things. Hence, when someone complains that MS wants to validate their copy of XP before allowing IE7 to install, that is suspect.

And please take note of just who brought this topic up.

just got tired of digging through posts of people complaining about not being to install MSIE 7 because of validation,, if somone has a pirated copy, it won't validate....
but why pollute this thread??,, make a 'I have a bogus copy so it won't validate, so I can't install MSIE7'....

I didn't call anyone personally a pirate, but those who protest too much sure makes me wonder.. but, they sure made a mess of this thread..

I just say go make a thread for crying..

I have a semi stupid question . I'm happy with Firefox and only use IE when I need to(certain pages and so on). But I know the value of having all of the components on your computer up to date. My question is do I need to install this for security or to patch something, or can I let it sit their and not update?

At some point IE6 will not/cannot be updated, and IE 7 will be needed, they are also considering this a critical update.

I don't plan on using IE for more than WU, but I updated to it.

IE tab just runs a tab like an IE shell browser, all the properties, and vulnerabilities of IE.... It is best to keep IE updated also for the fact many programs like messenger programs use IE's .dll files.

True. But I guess what I'm asking is if I don't update to IE7(I only use Outlook, no messenger), will I be leaving myself open? Basically if I can pass on the update and still be secure.

One question. What about cookie handling in IE7. Is it the same as in IE6?
First Party Cookies - Accept/Block/Prompt
Third Party Cookies - Accept/Block/Prompt
Session Cookies - Checkbox for "Always allow session cookies"

Just wanted to ensure my cookie app CookiePal isn't going to be rendered unusable.
