ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- A neighborhood group is warning members that the man who was briefly a suspect in the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey is now living in the community with his father.
Snippets from the article:
The e-mail noted that Wex Karr's house is about three blocks from a playground.
Karr has not been convicted of any crime that would require him to register as a sex offender or restrict where he can live or work. Full story @ CNN.com

He was facing charges there (California), but the state lost the computer they confiscated from John Karr. The only evidence that prosecutors had were printouts of his pornography collection. Therefore, they dropped all charges against him. | Re: [Serious] AP: Atlanta residents warned: John Mark Karr live I don't understand why they couldn't throw him in jail for leaving the country to avoid prosecution even if they couldn't get the original charges to stick.
Then again the Boulder police department should have spent $50 bucks to get a DNA sample FedEexed over instead of spending thousands to fly him back here. He'd probably still be sitting in a Thai jail instead of making appearances on Larry King Live.

Good question. I'm also surprised they were not able/willing to prosecute him on some peripheral issue related to that case.
I guess the best we can hope for is that either his name and face become so notorious he never gets an opportunity to be alone with children or someone else comes forward with a claim of impropriety on his part.
I felt a bit uneasy posting his whereabouts last night, but considering he brought it upon himself to become a household name, the information I posted was publicly available on the Internet, and his own admissions were so disturbing I felt posting his address was justified. -- "[Our enemies] never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." | Well you've got to give him credit, I don't know of many people who were able to avoid prosecution and jail in China (or wherever it was) and get a free flight back home courtesy of the US taxpayers. Yes, it would have been much less expensive to get the DNA and let him stay there, chances are we'd never have to worry about him again.

He even flew first-class, I believe, and it sounded like he had a wonderful meal and alcohol.

| Total invasion of privacy, does the neighborhood let everyone know when someone new moves in? He does not have a conviction on his record and as such does not need to be treated like he does. Absolute crap. -- RIP Dimebag- August 20, 1966 to December 8th, 2004. | |

| Re: [Serious] AP: Atlanta residents warned: John Mark Karr live He opened himself up for his privacy to be invaded when he chose to seek attention for himself. This is the guy who tells the world he was with JonBenet when she died and that she was his "love" and his "life" and that he will forever love her. This is the guy who tells people that he wants them to know he is just like Michael Jackson. He does not have a conviction on his record because the police messed up and lost the evidence, not that a jury of his peers or a judge declared him innocent. He gave up his privacy when he chose to become a public figure. We are just supposed to forget all about what he has done and said? Not a chance. --

He gave up his privacy when he chose to become a public figure. We are just supposed to forget all about what he has done and said? Not a chance. So someone who is just accused of a crime but has never been convicted should be treated as if they were convicted? Sorry, until he is convicted he does not have a criminal record. Just because the police messed up doesn't mean he has a criminal record, they borked things so he does not have a criminal record.
This is a very slippery slope, I got falsely accused of assault, battery and attempted rape. Should my neighborhood be notified of this? I have never been brought to a police precinct nor was I ever booked but using the logic of this neighborhood group I am guilty. Where will the line be drawn now? How far in the criminal process will you go but not be prosecuted yet treated as if you are guilty?
So if I win the megamillions lottery and become a public figure does that mean every neighborhood association can send out a letter to the rest of the neighborhood saying I moved in? Hey, I am a public figure. Should neighborhood associations send out these notices for sports starts? They CHOSE to be public figures too, guess we gotta let everyone know. -- RIP Dimebag- August 20, 1966 to December 8th, 2004.

| Re: [Serious] AP: Atlanta residents warned: John Mark Karr live Perhaps because of your personal experience you are taking this situation too personally. I never said he had a criminal record. I stated the facts. Take away the criminal charges and look at what he else has done to call attention to himself.
A person who wins the lottery becomes a public figure for entirely different reasons. They didn't profess their love for a murdered child and said they were there at her death. They didn't state that they had drugged a little girl and sexually assaulted her before accidentally killing her. There are so many other bizarre things about this man's history. You really think he should be given his privacy? Do you think that people should not be concerned that this mentally ill man who has signs, based on his history, of being a pedophile is living near them? I don't think so.

Not for HIS privacy, but because law and rules are generic, and apply to ME as well. (well, when I was living in the ATL, at least )
Whatever rule, law or treatment you apply to him you have to apply to me. And if one day I am suspected of something, and then cleared up, I would really like to NOT have to move to another country on top of the ordeal of fighting a court battle.
I'm sure you would like your privacy protected as well if one day you are *suspected* of something. Well, the rules that protect you are the same that should have been protecting this bastard.

| Re: [Serious] AP: Atlanta residents warned: John Mark Karr live What I have been trying to point out is that it is not so much of what he has been suspected of doing that has resulted in his loss of privacy, but what he has done. I am not going to repeat myself here, but take a look at my previous posts in terms of what he has chosen to do and say to result in the privacy loss. You just don't make statements such as he did and than expect for people not to be concerned that someone like him is living near you. --
