Re: How to Install IE7 Bypassing Genuine Windows Validation

agreed..

not to mention, they can keep it. I'm genuine, but it's just a freakin' browser. They make is sound like it's worth gold or something. Firefox or another browser will do me just fine. Besides, as it looks, IE7 has Firefox Envy anyway.

A) I agree with Cudni See Profile.

B) Am I missing something here?

His instructions are to begin by downloading the installer from the Microsoft site, which he links to. In order to download the installer from the Microsoft site, one must pass the validation test, mustn't one?

Yup and keep using my non-IE browsers like Mozilla v1.7.13 (soon SeaMonkey I hope).

This might be useful for Linux people wanting to run IE 7 under Wine (which I realize sounds like a silly thing to do, but there are a LOT of legacy Windows application out there)

I think it will be short matter of time before we see zip archives with all of those files included (as well as a batch for replacing backup copies of normaliz.dll etc).

whatever....Firefox2 today!

True, no reason for such things (unless you are on Linux) because everyone knows both Microsoft and WGA are completely infallible....

Sure, lets pay the richest man in the world to allow you to download the swiss cheese of all software for free. I see no problem with that. Considering Linux has no ActiveX (without much un-necessary work, and Mac has had minimal (if not non-existent) issues with their browser, and no known virus threats of recent has came from the two O/S's. Sure, I'll pay for a registry system that is often exploited or corrupted by legitimate software, or even cluttered by some webpage visits. And, why yes, I love having to second guess if the slow loading page my IE loads, isn't really the newest, latest, greatest exploit, working it's way into my system thru "flash player" exploits, or "Java". Nah, I'd rather use Firefox, even stoop as low as Konqueror (which does work great, considering), before doing ONE SINGLE STEP to get IE7 working on my computer.

P.S. Windows is getting to the point where I am about to start emulating it thru VMWare, but I have no problem dual booting as a backup/resource saving method for games.

The author of that first link is from Bagladesh, I wouldn't doubt pirated copies of everything is the norm there, so the need to bypass this would probably be a big deal for most there.

Re: How to Install IE7 Bypassing Genuine Windows Validation

Even if yours *is* legit, WGA is still bull$#!T.

My post from a similar forum:

My computer is not an extra-terrestrial, it does not need to phone home for any reason (not even crashes). It and the software on it belongs to me (I paid for it), thus it will or will not do exactly what I tell it to.

Same reason I will not buy a new Chevrolet; I don't need a direct connection to GM.

Wont buy a Chevy, but you will buy Windows? I'm confused!

I own an '06 Chevrolet, and it has no way of "phoning home".

From what I've been told, your Chevy can "phone home" if it's equipped with OnStar.

it is much more sinister than that as now it can guess the final destination based on previous journeys and text the Mrs in advance allowing her to set up an ambush.

That's why I drive a Ford.

OnStar is a big rip off. I'm not worried about locking myself out because my vehicle has a keypad on the door which can unlock it for me. No need for OnStar and their monthly fee.

For those worried about "phoning home" stuff:

Throw out your cell phones. Your phone company knows exactly where you are. And so does the police, who have access to cell phone information if they need to track you down.

Nowadays, they can not only find out what cell tower you are connected to (which is easy), they can find out which direction you are from the cell tower, and the approximate distance from that cell tower. They can track you down within a radius of a few hundred yards.... just by having a turned on cell phone.

Those who won't buy a chevy because it "phones home" should immediately cancel their cell phone plans. Buy a pager, it is hard to track.

{SNIPPED}

Not to mention more than half of cars have a black box (EDR) that is recording or "spying" on you. Does not send out that info, but the police and insurance companies can retrieve it for proof of fault if needed.

Records speed, pedal movement, seatbelt use...

Only a matter of time before all cars have that. Guess people will have to stop driving too.

I don't have a cell phone for this very reason. I like having some privacy. That is more important than jabbering loudly with irritating ring tones on a cell in public. People with cells should at least have some common courtesy. I don't I want to hear their conversations. Those should be private. I can't understand the rudeness and total lack of concern for privacy of cell phone users. I've heard credit card numbers with all the information I would need to do identity theft from loud mouthed cell phone users who also just love to have screaming arguments in public on their phones.

Interesting the trouble some will go just to remove WGA even if their copy of Windows is legit.

For anyone that feels so strongly about WGA they should either get used to the fact MS is going to use it and accept it or move to an OS not made by MS.

Some people will go through all those changes because even if their stuff is legit, it is possible for MS to say it isn't. As I have had happen twice recently on brand new machines!

I even booted into Winblows today thinking I may want to check out this new IE7. Nope, not going to. Sounds like a big POS!!
