not to mention, they can keep it. I'm genuine, but it's just a freakin' browser. They make is sound like it's worth gold or something. Firefox or another browser will do me just fine. Considering Linux has no ActiveX (without much un-necessary work, and Mac has had minimal (if not non-existent) issues with their browser, and no known virus threats of recent has came from the two O/S's. Sure, I'll pay for a registry system that is often exploited or corrupted by legitimate software, or even cluttered by some webpage visits. And, why yes, I love having to second guess if the slow loading page my IE loads, isn't really the newest, latest, greatest exploit, working it's way into my system thru "flash player" exploits, or "Java". Nah, I'd rather use Firefox, even stoop as low as Konqueror (which does work great, considering), before doing ONE SINGLE STEP to get IE7 working on my computer.

My post from a similar forum:
My computer is not an extra-terrestrial, it does not need to phone home for any reason (not even crashes). It and the software on it belongs to me (I paid for it), thus it will or will not do exactly what I tell it to.
Same reason I will not buy a new Chevrolet; I don't need a direct connection to GM.

| For those worried about "phoning home" stuff:
Throw out your cell phones. Your phone company knows exactly where you are. And so does the police, who have access to cell phone information if they need to track you down.
Nowadays, they can not only find out what cell tower you are connected to (which is easy), they can find out which direction you are from the cell tower, and the approximate distance from that cell tower. They can track you down within a radius of a few hundred yards.... just by having a turned on cell phone.
Those who won't buy a chevy because it "phones home" should immediately cancel their cell phone plans. Buy a pager, it is hard to track. -- "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both" - Benjamin Franklin, Founding Father. | |
