1 edit | [TWC] Dallas unveiled
This is from the website »www.timewarnercable.com/dallas/
Road Runner will be unveiled on October 31, with so many benefits, its scary! There will be a planned interruption in service on Sunday, 10/29 while we make the necessary upgrades to our system. After that, there will be no slowing you down!
What exactly will the changes be? |

| said by gary2381 :What exactly will the changes be? If other converted areas are any indication, one change is a suffocatingly small 5MB email storage allotment.
Other changes reported by some areas are a reduction in the upload on the Premium tier from 768Kbps down to 512Kbps, and elimination of the "fudge factor" in download speed caps (for example, where an advertised Comcast 6Mbps had an acutal cap of 6.6Mbps to account for overhead, an advetised RR 6Mbps would be capped is exactly 6Mbps).
Again, this is just what folks in other areas have reported. As always, our mileage may vary. |

| reply to gary2381 I was changed over to rr.com about 30 min ago. Connection came back up OK but now I'm only getting 1700 down rather than 6600 an hour ago. Upload the same: 355.
I'm inclined to give it some time since the conversion just started but wondered what others experiences were. |

Did you get the notification that they were transferring you or did you just lose connection and re-acquire? I'm in Carrollton and several weeks ago I signed up for the "early bird" transition which stated that I would be one of the first transferred over. I got an email yesterday saying they would begin transitioning people today and that I would receive another email. So far I haven't heard anything.
I did check my speeds earlier in preparation for the transfer, just to see what changes there would be. I was getting around 6.45 mbps down and 381 mbps up.
I'm hoping that your slow speeds are only temporary. Did you power cycle your modem? |

About 10 this morning I was unable to reach any sites although the modem lights looked normal. After unplugging the modem I was able to get back on and my ISP ID had changed from comcast.net to rr.com. Ping times are vastly improved by pingplotter but my download is still 1500-1700. I've cycled the modem several times including removing the cable etc and no change. I seem to recall some other parts of the country had temporary speed drops during migration so hopefully that is all it is. I wondered if maybe my speed profile had gotten lost but 1600 is too low for any profile.
No email about migrating email accounts or anything, I was just aware of the transition today because of the TWC site. |

@comcast.net | I live in Allen, and as you can see from my domain name, we are still on Comcast. I have cycled my modem. |

| reply to gary2381 Looks like they finally switched mine. Could not connect. Powered down PC & modem, powered back up with a new IP address. Comcast d/l speed was 6.45 mbps earlier today. Now I'm getting around 4 mbps. Upload appears to be the same. While 4mbps isn't bad, I'd like to see 6 again. I'm hoping it goes back up once everyone is converted.
Still no notification about new email address. |

| reply to gary2381 Network was down earlier until I rebooted the modem, router, and PC. Speeds are 6 meg down and about 300 up. The overhead that Comcast gave us is now gone. Overall, the speeds are roughly about the same. Performance so far is great. So we'll see what's going on from now...

2 edits | reply to Pine59 I have the rr.com DNS suffix and today on first boot I had no connection - so I power cycled and the comcast page was still up - so i did some investigating. It took me a while to 'find' the customization page for rr for all available areas, once done we have the proper North Texas roadrunner user web page displaying fine, but i noticed that i can log into webmail just fine, and I can even manage my account -- all with the comcast username/pass but it will not access the actual RR homepage 'logon box' to sign into other services like customizing the rr page etc...(eg same poassword that works for webmail doesn't work for the regular rr.com logon box)
I had a 10 min chat with a RR rep that really didn't know what was going on despite me telling him that i was in the Dallas area (bedford actually) he continued to think I was in Cali even though at the end of the session he clearly told me that his account screen for me read DAL-NTX for me - he was pretty lost through most of the conversation.
Also, the activation wizard which you can access from the TW site still doesn't have the Dallas or North Texas area from the dropdown selection box whn you get halfway through the activation wizard. It lists all the other supported areas but not North Texas. So it appears that the NTX area isn't fully transitioned as of yet. |

| reply to gary2381 Looks like my speeds are pretty close to what they were before. According to the Speakeasy site:
D/L: 6373 kbps U/L: 360 kbps
Now when I measure it myself by FTP-ing a file from my FTP site, it's close to 6000 kbps but there are a few pauses during the download, causing the average to go down.
My new email also works via the webmail interface but as others have reported, I can't login to the RR page itself. |

join:2001-05-23 Carrollton, TX | reply to gary2381 TV and HSI both died about 3:00 PM Sunday, and came back sometime between 4:15 and 7:00. HSI has tx.rr.com DNS. Speeds are 4M/384k instead of 6M/384k. But I haven't received my "Welcome" email so I'm not officially complaining yet. |

| reply to Pine59 Pine59 - my speeds are unaffected so far. I was on a special price plan which ran out recently, but it did affect me from getting the comcast speed tier automatic upgrade to 8/768 or 16/1 (whichever it should have been) but I still have about 6.3 down and 384 up so my speeds are the same. |

| reply to gary2381 My speedtest speeds (tried about half the sites on the list here) are reporting in the 300-450Kbps down and 350ish up range, used to be right at my advertised 6000/384.
Easynews downloads (which used to just hit my download cap and stay there) are doing around 180KB/s, vs nearly 600 where it used to be..
powercycling any/all equipment has had no effect.
If this isn't fixed in the next 24 hrs or so TWC is going to hear from me.. if only I lived in FIOS-ville. My friend is stuck on an ancient Verizon 384/384 DSL but can get FIOS now, he just hasn't got around to ordering yet.. now I'm almost as slow as he is! |

| reply to gary2381 I'm wondering if a new thread needs to be started specifically for people who have had an immediate loss of speed following migration. I would really be interested in hearing from anyone who has gotten a fix from tech support.
I had an e-mail exchange last night and this morning with support that didn't really get anywhere. I do give them credit for responding quickly but one of them tried to convince me I hadn't been transitioned yet even though I have a @tx.rr.com email and my ISP IDs as rr.com. He told me to contact Comcast for support until I was transitioned.
Just got a response back that a trouble ticket has been created so I'll let you know. |
