More people are happy with U-Verse then not. I would register with the site (it's free) and post in the U-Verse forum. ATT has techs on here that can look at the stats and try to figure out what's going on. |

| reply to justin We have fiber optic to the neighborhood, copper from the mini-co to house. Great bandwidth, mostly great firewall and router but has glitches when you try to configure multiple static IPs on a single nic card and want them visible to the outside world. Seems 2WIRE never considered that in the firmware.
You can do multiple nics provided you turn off netbios over tcp/ip. Otherwise only one gets input from the outside.
The 2wire 3800 has a lot of microsoft code in it for the TV, and I assume other areas. We actually get a better picture and sound than we did with DISH network but the static ip side of the firewall needs some work in the firmware area.
Bottom line is I get more bandwidth, plus TV for 100 bucks less a month when I had AT&T DSL, Telephone and AT&T's OEM of the DISH Network product. Its not a bad deal, but if you run servers beware of the limitation of one static IP per NIC (unless I have overlooked some hidden setting, but so far I think I know as much or more than the AT&T tech guys do (who have been very helpful to me BTW) about static IPs on this box.
I wouldn't want this product if I didn't have fiber to the neighborhood, you need a good data pipe nearby. |

| reply to justin Here's something you all might find interesting:
I signed up for Uverse last week (southeast Michigan). I have 6 televisions in my house (nevermore than 3 on at a time). As most know each television has it's on box - on June 15 AT & T will enable DVR functionality on EVERY box providing me with over 700 hours of recording space in SD or 200+ HD. Each DVR will be accessible from any TV. If in fact both people were telling the truth AT&T just trumped every service out there. |

| reply to justin Had U-verse installed on 6/2/09. Coming from DirecTV sat TV, AT&T phone and AT&T DSL. Our 1984 built home was pre-wired with RG-59 coax, and was afraid that not having CAT5 coax throughout might be an issue, but it appears the existing home coax is working fine.
Since AT&T DSL used Yahoo mail, the transfer over to U-verse was seamless regarding existing email accounts. No changes needed for Outlook either.
Coming from DirecTV U-verse TV has a learning curve, but that's to be expected I guess. I do wish there was an option in the Program Guide to only view the channels you get. Instead you either have to create a Favorites by going through each channel and checking if you want to see it. There's also an option to hide channels.
The main reason I switched to U-verse was the internet. I was getting tired of the max 6GB download from DSL, and the problems I was having with it. So it's nice to have the 18GB down/1.5GB up speed available. Though I do wish higher upload speeds were available.
So far, so good. But I've had the service less than a week now, and haven't explored all the options available yet. |

Thanks Gary |

| Gary,
That's a limit everywhere for U-Verse currently. If you can get a total sync or 30+ megs you get the 2HD/2SD profile basically 25meg cap. If your below 30 megs you will be put on the 19meg profile which is 1HD/3SD.
They are looking at expanding the 2/2 to 3/2 but no ETA on when that will happen. |

2 edits | reply to justin Guys I live in LR ar and I am getting flooded with mail and phone calls trying to get me to sign up. OF COURSE when I push for answers its well uh and you know
Maybe someone here can clear up some stuff.
I have 2 HD tv's and considering a 3rd....Nope, most you might get is 2. MIGHT? well it is according to your address.
Right now I have phone and dsl service. What will I have with U-Verse? Internet phone? Well we leave your phone service intact, and you won't need your dsl service any more.
I have Dish with the 250 Gold full Everything...722 and a 622 dvr's WELL YOU NEED THE 450 package. phone, internet and all channels we carry, including premiums. AND WITH A COUPON you get a free dvr... 1? yes but you can record from any tv 1? HOW many hrs.....DUH HUH ?
Again is this internet phone service or copper wire?
going from phone, dsl and dish....Would I be giving up anything or would I be gaining something good? I wish that they would have gone fiber like verison...it just looks to me that they are trying to shove an elephant down a garden hose and saying WELL you will probably NOT notice this or that.
Does verison have any channels that dish or comcast don't and vice versa ? |

| My advice to sparks is that if you are happy with your Dish TV service, don't change it.
In my opinion it's worth it to upgrade your AT&T DSL to U-verse Internet, and your landline phone to U-verse Voice. But it's not a slam dunk. Again if you're happy with what you've got, keep it. There'll always be another offer. |

| reply to justin U-VERSE is easily the BEST video provider! Yes if you have more than 5 TV's you might want to think it through b/c you only get 4 video streams (Trust me they will fix that). The features and capabilities alone easily make it better than any other TV service. They just made it to where you can record from any room in the house that has a box. Not to mention up to date and user friendly guide and menu. For all you techies, each box can run off of CAT5. It has to be existing CAT5 or the Technician will drop a line (Each CAT5 drop is $75). The system is sensitive. It is VERY IMPORTANT that the technician due the job right when installing U-Verse. If that happens you will love U-Verse and you will never go back to your old service provider. PS: Obviously something about U-Verse people love b/c there is over 1,300,000 customers and it isnt slowing. If U-Verse wasnt limited on how far you are away from the neighborhood phone box all other providers should start packing their bags. Its only available in about 85 markets in 15 states. |

Do you know if this new functionality (record from all STBs) is available everywhere or is it being rolled out to different regions slowly? I'm in San Diego and I have not seen it announced here. That would solve my dilemma of switching from Time Warner to Uverse. |

| Thanks guys, I'll check it out. I actually don't have the Uverse service (YET) because of this very issue. I have 3 TVs, two of them HD. So, I wanted to make sure I can record enough content.
I'm still concerned about the 2HD/2SD recording and watching of shows. I was never able to get a straight answer from the rep I spoke to about this. If I am recording two HD shows on one HD DVR, the other TVs cannot record or even watch a third HD channel, but I can still watch any recording, correct? |

I'd also be interested in any side-by-side comparisons of Cable (particularly TWC) vs. Uverse HD picture quality. |
