| [Security] Windows Explorer bypasses password
I noticed lately when I type 192.168.1.1 in Windows Explorer it takes me to my router settings page but if I use Internet Explorer it prompts me for password. I don't think it was like that on my 98SE box?

| On my Linksys WRT54GLv1.1 running DD-WRT v23 SP2 (09/15/06) std it does display the status page, but when trying to click on another tab it will ask for the username and password.
Are you able to make changes to the settings? Are you sure that you haven't already logged in using IE? Windows Explorer will just reuse IE's cache, including passwords... -- Correcting one "looser" at a time. |

1 edit | I can change all settings including password even after clearing cache and running CCleaner. I don't use AutoComplete so passwords, urls, etc are not stored on this machine.
How can I disable this from happening?
Edit: I am unable to do this on an XP Home laptop that is connected to this router? -- Prevent Malware |

| Sorry can't help you here. The only way I can duplicate what you described is if I have already logged into the router using Internet Explorer and then log in again using Windows Explorer (IE is still open) although I expect this behavior. If I close all instances of IE and WE, then try to log in into the router through WE, I get challenged as expected. -- Correcting one "looser" at a time. |
