| [Help Me] Anyone able to understand D-Link's product direction?
I have just about gotten used to D-Link's lack of proper product information and support for certain items like introducing the DIR-655 and only having a small pic of it on the support page, or going to the support page for a new product only to find no useful info. What I can't understand is with the introduction of the DIR-655 they also rolled out a cardbus adapter and PCI adapter. At the same time they removed the PCI adapter for the DIR-635 for which I need. It is removed from all areas of the site except the archive on news releases. I sent an email and was told to call for product information. So I called and the person was clueless and didn't even know there was a specific adapter for my router. The adapter for the 655 router shows it supports that router and nothing about supporting any other N router. So unless the adapter for the 655 also works with the 635, what are they thinking removing the DWA-547 PCI adapter that supports the 635?
They play a mean game of "now you see me, now you don't."
Now if they'd only listen to me when I tell them they should not make the wireless internal to the DSMs and cams. They should have a cardbus slot and allow you to insert the card of your choice. I'd pay a few bucks more for the addition of the slot. Oh well, guess I'm dreaming.

DLink DIR 635 pre N is not a formal pre N because there is no pre N standard on the market yet. The manufacturers normally don't borther to fix any known problems to improve the sold product. It is better for their business to push out another product corrected or improved their known problems. Like DI 624 has too much problem for DLink to handle. DLink push out two new routers WBR 2310 and 1310 to replace DI 624 and DI 524. When Dlink found out there may be a protential problem with DIR 635, they push out an improved DIR 655 with the WILL and Giga Lan. In this high speed internet and fast lane, money talks when they push out an improved product. Just don't chase for the new product because we never see any 54 Mbp router can produce 54 Mbp signals, 300 Mbp is only a function of the DIR 635 or DIR 655, but it never happens. |

| Well they do make it clear that there is no formal N standard, so I'm okay with that. So far I have had no problems with the 635. In fact it is the most stable unit I've ever used. If the 655 is designed to replace/fix something with the 635, I hope that problem isn't something I'll see.
Well almost a week later I get word from D-Link. Seems the DWA-552 listed as compatible with the 655 is also for the 635. Hopefully they will note that on the web site for the 635.
Speed isn't my biggest concern. My place is single story and very long. I have DSMs and DCSs that have no line of sight and have to work through 4 and 5 walls. So far, so good with the 635 and 7db antennae.
