Re: AT&T Distance Limitations

Great will do. I've ordered the second line and now the "Company Line" is that the second line has to be a flat residential line like the first and that I cannot get measured service. Nothing ceases to amaze me.

Hey you're not alone in this quest. I've got the same situation here, except that our only broadband option otherwise is satellite.
We had to battle to get our DSL 7 months ago and it's been working flawlessly ever since. When I give a reference to AT&T for someone else, it takes weeks to get through the system to get it activated, because according to the records it's not available. After 7 mos. when we query the system, it still shows our number and address as not being available. How bout that?
We are right at 14,000ft. from the CO. the last one on the line with enough signal to get it out here. But this is with 1950's era wiring etc..........

I am running into issues with distance limitations on provisioning a *new* dsl line. I was told that ASI was not doing manual line qualifications anymore and that what the system said s what goes. According to AT&T, they cannot provision new DSL order on copper loops that are longer than 14,000'. I have 5 people on my street that are without DSL that want DSL and have to go to our local "mom and pop" cable provider (»www.cmaaccess.com/internet_residential.html) which is pretty much a joke..1024/512 or go without.. My current service has been working pretty much flawlessly since it was connected on 1/23/03...almost 4 years. The only sync issues I've had are when I completely lose dial-tone. Prior to that I had DirecTV DSL which also worked flawlessly for about a year until they went under.

Has anyone else run into this issue since the policy change? I KNOW that DSL, ADSL OR SDSL, will work to distance up to 18,000'...I know because I've worked for a company that installed DSL at those distances. I am wanting to pretty much throw MORE money at AT&T and they don't want it.

Who's running the show there? To me, this is ridiculous. I had considered getting a second line installed (measured service) and attempting to get DSL installed on it..is it even worth trying? If there are any AT&T or ASI techs out there that could possibly help, please let me know. This is very frustrating.
