I have an Abit IC7-G mobo...pentium 4 3.0 HT and a gig of ram
wanted to overclock it, but with standard heat sink and fan, would it be advisable and would the difference be noticeable?
Thanks guys!! |

| Yes and yes. Al,though you'll need to watch the temps of the CPU and go easy on the overclocking. If you get a good heatsink and fan system you can overclock it more then with the stock HSF unit. -- Shooter Ready--Stand By BEEP ******** |

| reply to svtsnakevert Yeah, and on top of what Shootist said:
Some of the P 4's were a little warm I think (never had one myself, roomie does, though), warmer than the new Core 2s at least, but that said, unless you push your voltage up a bit and overclock it a bit, your ok.
Thing is, aftermarket coolers, the good ones, can be awesome and make a huge difference for stability, overclockability, and CPU longevity. If you ever need some recommendations of brands/models, just let us know. One brand I like is Thermalright, and Scythe make nice stuff too, as does Zalman.

1 edit | reply to svtsnakevert wow you just took me back to 2003. I had the same board, and loved it. Used a 2.4c and a 3.2c on it.
Anyway I looked at some old screenies of mine and at load with a cascade waterblock which at the time was primo, I ran about 47c. I think the IC-7 did report a tad high back then. Not sure what the latest bios for it is or what date. I would get a better hsf for it as the stock isn't that great.
I can't seem to find too many old screenies for the 3.2 as i went to a p4c800-e right after I got it. I did super pi at 3.84 on water which in the northwood day's was decent. The 2.4c went to about 3.6 but 300fsb was a tough barrier and could only go a few beyond it.
I can try and help but my mind is fuzzy. Let me know. -- Opie and Anthony XM202 & FreeFM... Spread the Virus!!!! |
