said by mdreher4 :Downstream Noise Margin 43.09 dB Downstream Attenuation 7.35 dB Downstream Output Power 19.71 dBm Wow! Using maximum power to get 43db noise margin on a line with 7db attenuation is like using a megaphone when a whisper will do. This telco is killing their system with unneeded noise from crosstalk with such ridiculous settings - I'd hate to be far out from THIS CO trying to get DSL service. |

| reply to mdreher4 Yes, I know line quality is not the current restriction on your speeds. Now it is only the Telco contract that controls/restricts your speeds.
For the latest news you would have to contact Earthlink as they only resell the speed packages that they are allowed to by the Telco contract terms. If Qwest restricts them to 3.0 Speeds then there is nothing faster unless you get Covad provisioning.

| reply to Doctor Olds As I mentioned in the other thread, the capacity issue is definitely not an issue anymore.

I know the maximum that Qwest sells is 7 meg (I believe their packages are 1.5, 3, 5 and 7). I just didn't know what the Earthlink contract was with Qwest... |

The first hurdle to faster speeds is what are your current Modem stats showing?
If your line is running at 80% to 100% Capacity when at 1.5 Speeds, then no faster speeds are going to be possible on your line.
If your line is running at 50% Capacity when at 1.5 Speeds, then you would be running borderline to get 3.0 out of a 1.5 line under that situation.
Faster Speeds require shorter lines and the best stats out of the line.
For 6.0 Speeds, I understand that only Covad provisioned lines can currently get it. All other provisioning partners are limited to 3.0 speeds or lower. It has to do with the terms of the contract set by the Telco/provisioning provider and what they offer/make available to Earthlink.

| As referenced in another thread, I'm now finally at speeds that are better than I'd hoped for for the last several years...and it seems that my line should be capable of greater than 1.5.
My question - what is the max for Earthlink with Qwest as the underlying provider? I know that I could get 6.0 if I had Covad, but I don't want Covad (already had TNF issues with them).
Thanks in advance! |
