Someone actually makes sen$e?

The success of YouTube is that it is a marketing vessel, via viral-social-tribal distribution.

And as long as Viacom gets their piece of the action, everyone will be happy.

You guys are right about the marketing value - and maybe this deal is a sign that the "content" companies are beginning to figure this out.

In my opinion, it's Viacom that should be paying YouTube. It's free marketing now, then they bitched about it. YouTube is not going to go under losing the daily show clips, but the daily show might fail without YouTube.

But in a way, wasn't Viacom already getting "a piece of the action" as a result of more people watching the Daily Show and Colbert Report because they were on YouTube?

After thinking about, we decided, uhmmm, YouTube viewers shouldn't be deprived of me and Steven Colbert.

"I didn't even have anything to do with it."

The Daily show was doing fine before youtube. The Colbert Report is going to do well because it's associated with the Daily Show. I seriously doubt youtube is responsible for their success.

Well, it certainly never hurt. I can't see how being promoted on YouTube did anything other than add to their success.

I don't watch either show, BUT, when I do see a clip on Youtube, I get the urge to watch (although I don't.) But the urge is there and that's where marketing starts.

Agreed, it's maybe enhanced the ratings, but the shows would have done well enough without youtube.
