Re: Packet loss in Louisville, Jefferson CO area

Sometimes my speeds are good and sometimes there really slow. I noticed my Vonage phone is acting up again.

Speeds are still terrible here, just on the west side of the UofL campus.

Hey all, seems this forum is alot more active than the insightbb.com forum. I live in downtown Louiville, a couple blocks from UofL campus. I've had Insight for 4+ months. At first I had no complaints, but they have let me down the last couple months. Unfortunately my connection is worthless for internet gaming due to packet loss. I've called several times, and have reformatted and all that.

Skeeve2010,

The problem is probably that people on your Node do not use their connection at night as much as others allocating more signal on the line to come into your modem. I am not sure but I had the same problem in the past. During peak times my connection was fine but early in the morning or late at night my signal would be up over +16Db which is not in the acceptable range -12Db to +12Db. My problem was an easy fix I figure out myself. I had a Motorola Signal booster that worked on cable and broadband. All I did was split it before the booster where the modem had it's own line off the booster. Insight might have to fix something at your drop to lower the signal, they also have had to do that in my area. Someone correct me if I am wrong this is just an assumption.

connection the last few days has been just as bad as ever in st matthews, 500k down average. speeds are decent this morning, but still can't game due to horrible pings and packetloss.

Connection last few days have been good which is a huge improvement over last week cable TV and Internet outages as well as a few friends that were also out with Insight Phone service.

My connection has been pretty stable for the past couple of weeks. It's nice to not have to call Insight every night! Sorry for those who are now having issues. Keep calling them and you will eventually find someone who is willing to help you.

Unacceptable. This past week I have been having problems, primarily at night when things start to get really cold. I had a tech come by today and he was telling me that 'this is an ongoing problem.' That is simply unacceptable. I am completely without any broadband access from about 10pm to after about 10am each day. This is an "ongoing problem???" After also telling him about how my digital tv box was acting up (on screen guide not working right, several digital channels not working, and on-demand being very choppy) he went out and tested the signal and said that it was too high. Well, here's my thing. The signal is high and I'm online now. Why do I loose the signal only at night when it gets cold? What it comes down to is that I'm getting less than half of what I'm paying for. Unacceptable!!

Dont bother on calling Insight, its on theyre end your just gonna have to wait it out, or switch to bellsouth if you wanna upload to ftp or play any online games... btw if you do decide to play online you can pull it off if you play in a server located in Atlanta

Seems my pings are a little jumpy but the packetloss seems alot less. Speeds are good. Can't complain about it much I only use my connection for about 20 minutes though. I am logging in remotely and doing a constant ping haven't seen alot of timeouts.

At the moment things seem to be good. Cable TV is working and Internet speed back up to good speeds with low packet loss too. Sad cable TV and Internet went south so much during last few days. Hopefully things will remain good for a while now in 40241 zip code near Goose Creek Rd/US 22 near Standard Country Club in Louisville, KY.

There I go with a positive post for a change!

I received a call from management at the Louisville office and they sent a tech back out. We'll actually like 4 techs. They came out and checked all my signals and they made a phone call to a higher tier level support I suppose and ended up finding out that it was a CTMS? server issue or something and it was affecting alot of users in my area. They will be working on getting it fixed. I hope this will fix my problem. I will post more info when I find it out.

Got a call today from the IT manager in Louisville. They are going to put a monitor on my modem over the weekend. I am going to try to use my connection as much as possible so they can witness what I am seeing. My luck it will run perfect this weekend. I don't understand why a monitor wasn't put in place before now.
