Re: Packet loss in Louisville, Jefferson CO area

there's my speed from last night when i called insight about my problem. today things are better and they will be tomorrow when the tech comes of course. right now my speed is testing at about 4000 down and 800 up, which is typcial, but still well below the average insight customer.

The speed you posted is ridiculously slow and you need some help jdunc! It's good tech help is coming to your place.

Oddly enough, I have been getting some high pings over the past serveral days. You can see my results on the line testing group page, but tonight, things are moving.

I am in the Jtown, 40299 area.

I did get a letter today in the mail explaining the improvements in speeds.

so they came and replaced my modem and now instead of 4mb down, i am getting 10.25mb down. that's great news, but only time will tell about the packetloss problem and the loss of bandwidth at night. they said, "we've been having problems, but we don't know when it will be fixed".

I've been having the same issues. Speed is fine, it runs great but every 15 minutes to an hour I get a spike of total loss of connectivity. The modem stays synched but no traffic going through. It doesn't disconnect me from what I'm doing (WoW or Halo) but it freezes me for a while and is very annoying. Sometimes it's happening 4-5 times in a 10 minute span.

I do tech support for Charter so I know how to troubleshoot things like this, and it's absolutely a problem on Insight's end. I haven't spent any time on the phone with them YET, but probably will tonight when I get home, although from the posts above mine it won't do much good.

It had actually been running pretty good before they rolled out the 10/1. I'll call tonight and post back if I get anywhere. My signals are excellent, just lose connection for 30 seconds to a minute at a time.

JoshCharter, same exact thing as me. My speeds are good when I get them, and its just that spurt of packetloss that renders my internet dead. Not long enough to drop the modem but long enough to stop anything I am doing. Although a call might help, most of the time they will roll a tech out that has no idea of you problem and will call out someone else to check the main line when he didn't see a problem on your line. After he has found nothing wrong he will say he fixed something (in my case a port somewhere) if its not better in a couple days call back... If it is not better instantly how did he even fix it? anyways good luck Josh on getting that fixed. Hopefully all the problems will be gone soon. My internet used to be rock solid until the last 6-8 months. I have had more outages and problems in the last 6-8 months that I have had in like 5 years.

Jdunc, Glad to see it was something simple with your speed issues. Keep us updated on the packetloss if you are still seeing it. I am getting good speeds most of the time like you are seeing. I am getting around 10Mb/1Mb on insights test server and a little less on some of the others on this forums.

jdunc, i live in st. matthews as well and my connection has been really poor also. I can't play games on xbox live without lagging all over the place. My download/upload speed has been similar to yours. I called Insight over the weekend and the person I spoke did some pings and said some of mine were really high. I have a tech coming out tomorrow so we'll see what happens.

For Louisville 40208 area; I'm just west of the UofL campus. Already had a tech out, then some more techs after him. It seems kinda odd that it's a pattern that speeds return to normalcy before techs come out, as it occurred with me also.

Found out that my area is "an area with a problem, and it's being worked on." Hopefully this gets fixed before the week is up.

My tech tonight was a no-show. You just don't understand how angry that makes me. I called and complained, but got no where. I did find out that my problem had been escalated to the NOC, but that may have just been something they told me to get off the phone. When I asked how long it would be before the problem is fixed, I got no answer. Apparently I'll also not receive any kind of status reports. I guess I'll just have to call every night. I'm almost at the point of switching to DSL . I have 10% packet loss as I type this message.

You might try signing up for the line monitor group for Insight. It is free. It monitors your pings and you can see a graph like this that will tell you more about your connection. This one is mine. .

This may help you pinpoint the times that you loose your signal.

The tech came today and ran some tests via some insight beta speed test that connects with the local hub at: »74.128.14.17/ and within minutes I had ranges of 2mb down to 8mb down...so long story short he put in a work order for guys to check the lines outside and try to figure out what the heck is going on.

The tech who came didn't even know that non-business subscribers were bumped up to 10megs. He thinks that we only get 5 megs down...it's pretty discouraging to know that the employees aren't aware of major service changes.

While there may be many reasons for this. I fully agree with you. Unfortunately no matter how much the hyped commercials try and tell us differently. The majority of us here have seen this type of situation time and again.

Aren't most Insight techs contractors anyway? Well, I have about an hour until I see if my issues remain.

Insight techs contractors? I don't think that is true in all cases. Either way they should keep contractors in the loop as well. It is in Insight's best interest.

24% packet loss tonight :-(

Called again, and the tech I talked to saw no record of a ticket being submitted to the NOC last night. So, I sat on the phone while this tech submitted another one. Let's hope the NOC works its magic. The tier 1 techs that we talk to on the phone can't even see the tickets once they go to the NOC, so there's no way to get a status update according to them.

Here is my graph as you can see I lost complete connection while I was gone at about 8:00pm. What a suprise...
