So how do you like that system? I ordered one last week and am waiting for mine. I tried one at a Dell store at the Mall and it seemed to be a nice system.

After chugging along with an ancient tower case system that had been upgraded more times than I remember (from an overclocked Duron 600 and KT7A to a 2100+ XP and MSI KT-Combo), it was time to put 10 pounds of stuff into a small box. After two weeks, I will announce success!

I've always been a believer that good value can be found buying top of the line from the previous technology. Even though this is old stuff (by technology standards), this machine is solid, reliable, and does all I ask it to do. It's a two user system (WinXP Pro running two languages) that is used for surfing, video capture and editing, photo editing, VOIP telephone, and a little P2P. It resides in our living room (optical audio out and video to our home theater system), so it needed to be quiet and attractive as well as functional. So far, it has met all that I have asked for.

With only one smart fan in the whole system, it stays remarkably quiet when coupled with the Athlon64 and RMClock (RightMark CPU Clock and Power Utility). When idle, it lowers the clock and CPU voltage seamlessly down to 800MHz. This brings the CPU temp down to 38C. Under load, it ramps up the CPU's clock and voltage to 2.4GHz and the system holds the temp at 55C. It quickly (2-3 seconds) will drop back to 38C when the load is gone.
