Re: [modem/router] WRT54G & Westell 6100

No changes its just optional to use a Linksys controllin thePPPoe or the modem, if u want my opinion i rather the bridge and pppoe on the linksys WHY? if for some reason the Linksys reset it will return to the old ipaddress and double nat will become again, if u leave westell bridge and pppoe if something reset it self the worst thing that u will need to do is retype user name and password on the linksys.

Both methods to connect will work equally well. I have mine setup with the 6100 in bridge mode and the WRT54G doing the PPPoE.
Not to confuse the issue, but possibly to assist in troubleshooting, you can set the modem to do PPPoE and DHCP and then connect it into a LAN port on the Linksys. The Linksys will need to be assigned a static address within in the subnet mask of the 6100. By doing this the 6100 is the only thing controlling the DSL connection. (There is no NAT going on so make sure you have a firewall setup.)

Keep in mind before you beat your network up too much that frequent disconnects may not be anything on your end. It could be a Verizon issue. Is the modem set to keep the connection connected or is it connect on demand? ( I am sure you have checked this but I had to ask.)
How do your modem stats look? Noise margin and line attenuation, specifically.

What do you mean by disconnects? The DSL light blinks or the internet light goes out? If the DSL light blinks, this is usually a physical line issue. If the Internet light goes out, this is usually PPPoE issue caused by a session timeout or an authentication server problem.

As far as the linksys firmware, yes, the newer versions show the device as a WRT54GL. This is normal for V1.0->4.0

I use to do the first option at first.. UntiL i started getting too many disconnects. I guess because I didn't change the local ip. Currently I been doing MODem (Bridge) Linksys(PPPoE) .. I think i want to try the first option again 1 of these days.
Which way is the best way though ?
