I have a friend who lost a friend because he put a truck on a lift with a 4-wheeler on it. It fell off and smashed his brains out. |

As a Car enthusiast It's really sad to me to see a Elise this way, but anyway I'm glad it didn't happened to a Enzo or McLaren.

The car is scrapped.
That particular Lotus is glued (bonded) together with the floorpan being the main chassis member. (kindly note the orange blobs of glue under the front suspension areas).
It cannot be repaired. |

| reply to lotusracer Taking any car you care about to a chain is just plain retarded. Just as well it's totaled, they probably already used an impact on the lug nuts, tightened them sequentially at 150psi, put the wheel weights on the outside and scraped the rims on the tire changer. I've come to the conclusion that the exotic market is driven by people with money who want to look "cool" and don't know or care about cars. This guy doesn't know jack about cars. |

| reply to Ry said by Ry :What disturbs me about that owners post is how calm he sounds about the whole thing. I would have literally murdered everyone in that garage! I dunno. My car is hardly exotic, but it is fairly rare. Since it's not the only one, and I know that isn't the only Lotus Elise around, it can be replaced. Due to the hyper-exotic construction techniques used in the Lotus, it does look like a total loss.
I would be a bit perturbed by their incompetence and inability to follow instructions, but murder is a bit much. Either way, being upset isn't going to get the car replaced any quicker, and a calm person will probably get a bit farther with their insurance than a raving lunatic.
At the end of the day, it's a car, meant to be driven. They all are. And driving is going to cause wear, tear, and even a bit of damage. Nature of the beast. Sure, it sucks when someone else's stupidity causes your car to get damaged, but it's still only a car. It can be fixed or replaced.
My Mercedes S-class got totaled a few years back, and I was more put out about having to go through the paperwork and assorted BS than I was about the car getting wrecked. It's a car. And I had just put a new transmission into it. I actually explained that calmly to the adjuster (for the other party's insurance), showed him a receipt, and he made an appropriate adjustment to their compensation. I got what I thought the car was worth, so I was happy, and able to replace it with an even nicer car.
As long as they rent him something roughly equivalent in the meantime, he should be fine. (Actually, he mentioned a Porsche of some sort as a back up, so he's obviously not suffering for cars. It does stink that he won't be able to take his Lotus to the Lotus event her organized.) |

I won't take my beat up truck to Goodyear, but he feels confident taking a Lotus Elise there? I think we found the president of the "More Money Than Brains" club. -- I have a shaved head, a goatee, and tatoos. Don't you realize the rules don't apply to me. |

All it takes is to have a decent job, with no bad habits (other than the cars anyway). He could very well be like me, I'm not rich, just a retired guy in my 50's who never had kids. |

Yeah, after I looked at his website, I was surprised that he would take it to a place like Goodyear to get the tires done. |

My guess though is that neither are their "daily driver" cars and that he is much better-to-do then the average schmoe here. -- Quis custodiet custodes ipsos? |

If you've ever gotten in and out of one, you'll know it's definitely not a daily driver. A 911 is daily driver material, but not the Elise.

Well it made it to the M3 Forums according to another ET Thread... » www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthr···?t=30793Here's my reply... Hi M3 Forum members: I'm a former BMW owner (328is and 545i) and left the marque just a few months ago. I went to your forums and read your posts. Please pass this along to your members in my thread... >>Thanks for the kind words... Yes, my home life is different than most. I've remained level-headed because, you're right, there are worse things in life to stress about. My son Hunter is a precious gift. When I informed my wife about the Lotus damage, she freaked out... after she calmed down, I told her that the only thing important to me is that she, Hunter, and my family were safe. Everything else is immaterial. The Elise deal is a mess... but nothing that money, insurance, and time can't resolve. What a huge difference in maturity expressed by the M3 Forum members, compared to some of the other sites that this "incident" has made it to.
