| Mailguard
I noticed yesterday and today that I had alot less email than normal in my BellSouth account. I logged into Webmail and noticed that Mailguard has started blocking valid email. Emails I would normally get are now being filtered by Mailguard. Is anyone else seeing this problem? -- My definition of an expert in any field is a person who knows enough about what's really going on to be scared. |

| reply to Drex I had some listserves that have been coming through fine get blocked on Monday.
There was an article in eWeek about spam. Interesting reading with the numbers they throw out. »www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,2051949,00.asp |

| reply to Drex Yes, I only had eight emails, today. I usually get around forty, but most of them are spam. I will go back and check MailGuard.
Thanks!

| I have the same problem, non-spams are being whacked by MailGuard. I have a daily email from FatWallet.com that stopped coming through two days ago. These idiots must have just implemented something in their spam software.
A side note, hopefully if/when the AT&T deal goes through, AT&T will fire Accenture's arse and bring those IT jobs back to the US. Enough of this overseas outsourcing cr*p... |

| reply to Drex So we all seem to agree that the new setup for Mailguard while GREAT, is a bit overzealous and is dumping some of our "real" email into the spam folder. How do we solve this?
I prefer to have Mailguard immediately delete as opposed to holding them in a spam folder. its far too inconvenient to log into webmail and check it everyday.
I have domains hosted on Godaddy servers and their spam filtering works beautifully and does NOT dump good email. There's got to be a way for Bellsouth to find middle ground. |

| Smarter technology exists, mailguard doesn't appear to be too smart, or configurable. I use SpamBully on my Outlook client, and it does a pretty good job. I would like to see options in mailguard to be able to filter out international domains and IPs, plus a ranking setting with bayesian or server based filter list. I have always disliked their approach of giving an "on/off" switch, without any real custom configuration options for the user. |

| reply to Drex Yes, I also have non-spam being trapped by MailGuard. It used to catch next-to-nothing, now it is catching almost everything. Either way, it seems to be worthless.
I may as well turn it off. If I am going to scan through everything it catches to make sure to retrieve my good mail, I might as well let everything go to my Inbox and scan it all in one place.

| reply to Drex I understand that no spam filter will catch everything and sometimes it will catch legitimate emails.
I have a barracuda spam firewall here that I manage. I have it set so that our customers can adjust the spam filters to their liking, and they can control their whitelist/blacklist. -- If you do not think GOD is funny, take a trip to Wal-Mart and look at some of the people. |

| reply to Drex There is something seriously wrong with Mailguard. Beginning exactly when you mention, probably over the weekend or on Monday this week, it started quarantining as spam almost all my email - several newsletters, a couple of merchants I've opted into, even personal messages with an attachment. All of them are senders and/or products I've received without a problem for years.
I went to the BellSouth help pages and the only related FAQ had an email address this_is_good@bellsouth.net to forward mistakenly intercepted messages to to report. I forwarded every damn one of the dozens to them, but today some of the same ones were there, along with a couple of others.
I'm glad to know it's not just my problem, but I really don't know what to do about it. I don't use the web mail exclusively, and that's the only place to find out what's in the MailGuard quarantine. I can't imagine getting any useful response from a customer service rep. If this continues for more than a couple more days, it will end my endless debate with myself over whether to get satellite tv and keep bellsouth or just go to all-cable .... and bellsouth will not be the winner. If I can't get email at the bellsouth addresses, there is no value in keeping the service so I can keep the addresses, which has been the main sticking point for me. |

| Of course it's not the preferred or permanent solution, but you can turn MailGuard off. The only rub with MailGuard turned completely off is that you will have to manage your own spam. I suspect that until this issue is resolved, that would preferable to missing e-mails. -- It's not having what you want... It's wanting what you've got -- Sheryl Crow |

| Right, on both counts. I had actually been pleasantly surprised at the effectiveness of the MailGuard up until now, it was exceptionally good at getting all the real garbage and almost never got anything I wanted. Somtheing radically different went into effect this week, though. |

You're right, you'll not get a useful response from their offshore customer support. We can thank greedy CEO Duane Ackerman for that move. He conspired with Accenture to get a bigger kickback bonus by planning domestic staffing reductions and bolstering Indian outsourcing through Accenture's overseas group. It wasn't bad enough that they moved their customer support roles there. They worked out another money-grab for Ackerman by shifting IT positions over to India also. The whole thing with Bellsouth and Accenture just makes me sick. I would love to see the Dems crack down on these CEO abuses of power and put an end to untaxed offshoring by American companies. |

| reply to Drex When I first started to use Mailguard I set it to be able to review the emails they called spam.
After about 1 month I had not found any legitimate emails that were blocked. So i set it to delete whatever it considered spam.
After reading this thread, I decided to set it to "review" and see what it was blocking.
Well, I guess you know the story- it was now rejecting emails from people and companies that I have been receiving for years.
Something was changed, but not for the better. I now have mailguard turned off. It would have been nice if someone at BellSouth had told us they were changing the criteria. Who knows how many emails I've lost. -- No good deed goes unpunished. |

| reply to Drex As the mailguard@bellsouth.net addy as was given on the above BS(pun intended) website is now *invalid*, I have sent the below email to: postmaster@bellsouth.net (We shall see if it remains unanswered...)
Mailguard is labeling *everything* as spam! What's up? See »Mailguard and news://newsgroups.bellsouth.net/bellsouth.net.support.adsl for complaints coming in... What has changed for the worse in the past few weeks? Mailguard is unusable in it's present state!
Thank you,
p.s. I had to send to postmaster@ as the email for problems with Mailguard as stated here: "How can I report a problem with MailGuard?": »home.bellsouth.net/csbellsouth/s···ion1&ck= is *invalid*. If no recourse is forthcoming on this issue, we will be forced to resort to Presidential Escalations.
