Outdoor Enclosures: Sources?

Anybody have any off the wall sources for decent outdoor enclosures? Specifically medium sized (ie: 14x12x8, etc) boxes that would be suitable for mounting on a telephone pole?

My many google searches have yielded several nice boxes, ranging from $200 up to $3850, but none of which seem to "fit the bill", ya know? The closest I've found so far is the one from HyperLink (»www.hyperlinktech.com/web/pdf/nb···-10f.pdf), however, at $199 and having a non-adjustable thermostat for the fan is kind of a killer....but considering the other options (and the price for those others..sheesh!)

So I figured I'd ask the forum for sources for their medium sized outdoor enclosures. Maybe post a link or two, just to have a reference to look back on in the future. Doesnt have to be anything special, as I'm sure most of us here would be comfortable wiring up a fan/heater/110VAC outlet into one if we needed to.

So whats the verdict?

How robust does it have to be?

Primex (»www.primex.ca/) makes a wide variety of enclosures and accessories for Telephone and Cable companies. One of their larger boxes could do the job at very low cost.

But I will suggest getting a reliable thermostat-controlled variable speed fan from a PC assembler.

Doesnt have to be a fire-proof safe or anything, just enough to save the electronics inside from the weather. ~100F down to ~20F, 50-99% RH. My biggest issue is heat/humidity buildup, and I'll have to either buy a box with ventilation built-in, or build in my own.

Installed in and around Tallahassee, FL.. on the side of wood telegraph poles.

Whats going in it? WISP equipment of course.

Basically, I've found enclosures from various sources, with are all either way too small, or way too expensive. In a world of extremes, there has to be a happy median somewhere.

As in my OP, that one from HyperLink looks to be my best bet, considering the options I've found. I was just wondering if anybody had any other sources for similar enclosures at possibly a better price point. Being forced-air ventilated isnt a requirement, as I said above, I have no fear of wiring up a couple outlets and installing a couple 80mm fans if I had to.

What would be perfect...aka the ultimate score, would be the metal boxes that the cable-co uses for their fiber nodes that mount on the telephone pole. (Alpha PWE-3: »www.alpha.com/default.aspx?id=ca···542/543/) However, $1800 is a bit much to pay for that enclosure. Hell, its just a metal box with a pair of pre-wired AC outlets for crying out loud. But I digress..

I know this is overkill, but this type of box is what keeps coming to mind whenever I envision an outdoor electronics enclosure.

Hey, that's a nice box for the price. How sturdy is it? How much weight can you pile in there?

Caleb, you didn't use the reply button, so I don't know if your asking me....

If you are... I wouldn't hesitate to u-bolt the thing to a pole and then jump up and down on the box. If you end up getting one, I always call and ask for Brad and then give him the part # from the pdf.

wispman, yep you. I get carried away with the clicky button sometimes.

I don't have an immediate need for a box that size, but it is always good to have that sort of thing known and available. Thanks!

I just ordered 2 of them. $155.00 each is still a very good deal. He said they stock these particular boxes. Thanks for posting.

Yes they stock them, but everything else is custom.

If you take a piece of this
»www.petesdepot.com/113468.html
and squirt cault on it you can stick it to the screen on the louvers, and then put one bead around the patch to seal it. It will breathe, but I have these boxes in grain rooms and on grain legs and the cobra vent makes them dust free as far as i am concerned.

Holy crap that is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for.

I ran across that site when I was doing my endless googling for boxes. With no prices listed, and constantly reminding me of "custom jobs" on every page I looked at, I figured they were just a fab shop, and everything had to be custom built, so I moved along. Nice to know they keep things "in stock".

Nice price too. Thats definitely within my budget, and heck, that leaves enough extra to possibly get them to custom up me a fan system into it so that I dont have to give up on my laziness.

After a bit more poking around, I found a larger box that looks good as well. »www.bisonprofab.com/cctv_2.gif It even looks big enough to stuff my sister into it and hang it on a tree in the woods. 24Wx30Hx20D... but I can imagine it being $1800 like the rest of them.

Either way, I shall have to call Brad sometime tomorrow. Thanks!

It would be nice to have something 20" deep and 19" wide for rackmounting stuff. Anyone ever seen anything like that? Maybe 8 or so Us high

I have used boxes from ADproducts, you may need to add some venting but they come in all sizes

I could post some pictures if anyone would be interested.

ADproducts seems to be Hammond indoor industrial boxes?

I see similar Nema4X rated outdoor boxes in this complete list:
