| $3 million is just peanuts to them
180 solutions is without a doubt one of the worse spyware companies on the face of the earth. Back when I was tracking botnet networks many of the botnet owners bragged about how much money they were earning with 180 solutions and they did nothing about it. 180 claims they can't stop it but they can, you see what what 180 solutions doesn't tell you is most of its spyware is distributed through affiliates all of which are given unique tracking codes. If an affiliate is getting 30,000 installs per day with 0 visits to their affilite url shouldn't that be a big red flag that they are doing something illegal? 180 solutions has simply decided that they would turn their backs to this activity and pretend it doesnt exist in order to keep profits up.
But it doesn't stop there, it gets worse for website owners. The way 180 solutions/Zango make money is by having advertisers bid on domains where they want popups and visitors redirected. For example if you owned an auction site you could simply pay Zango/180 solutions to redirect everyone who goes to www.ebay.com to your crummy auction site instead. If eBay wanted their users/customers back it would have to go to zango and pay them more than what the current advertiser is paying just so they don't lose money. All this is just e-racketeering where both advertisers, consumers, and affiliates are getting screwed over in every sense of the word.
Everyone needs to write to their government so they do something to make this type of adware/spyware illegal and impose much more severe fines. $3 million is a joke considering 180 solutions made $54 just in 2004 alone. Now that they have tripled in size and revenue thats just 1 months worth of bandwidth to them. |
