| Truck Tires purchase advice
So the time has come for me to get new tires for my truck. The truck has stock 31 inch tires on it. I went to a place my father in law recommended and they advised i get something called "Turbo Tech" radial tires. They couldnt show me what they looked like and i cant seem to find a website for the company so I'm going into this kind of blind.
The mechanic said the tire will look like the ones that are currently on my truck which are a all terrain tire and they look kinda knobby. My question is what should i look for when getting a truck tire and by the mechanic ordering Turbo techs for me if they are ugly will i still be obligated to buy them since he ordered them? The truck is a mint condition 94 eddie bauer bronco and i want a tire that looks kinda beefy but is still road friendly. Thanks.

| Never heard of the tires. You should/should have asked the mechanic if you will have to buy the tires. I can not see them making you buy them. What to look for depends on what you want. B.F. Goodrich all terrain T/A tires are good. »www.bfgoodrichtires.com/bfgapp/p···ce=right |

Personally I'd stick with a more well known brand, a lot rides (no pun intended) on the tires so definitely not a place to skimp.. |

Seems to be a lesser brand. For tires I much prefer to stick with the major brands. With truck tires, noise is often a problem, and that depends highly on tread design. There's a lot of details that go into tread design to reduce noise, and the bigger guys tend to have more cash to do more research and development. I'm not these are bad, just unknown, so you may be disappointed. The compounding of the rubber is another issue, there's much research behind that to find compounds that give a good balance between wear, traction and temperature. |

| reply to mythology Check out the Tire Rack. Even if you don't buy from them, their tire selection guide will give you good ideas based on the kind of driving you do.
As for me, I hated the OEM Goodyear Wranglers that came on my Ram 1500. I've had good luck with the BFG Long Trail Radial T/A's, and mixed feelings about the Firestone Destination LE's that are on it now. I do mostly highway driving, some towing, occasional snow, and little off-roading. -- Son, there's only one thing you need to know: HEMI |

I have those right now and they are junk, I going to probably put some Remington Rv tires on when these POS wear out. | reply to TheHarvester I just put my third set of BFG all Terrain T/A's on my old Chevy. Best all around tire I have ever used. Been getting about 50-60K out of them. -- Crunching for Help Defeat Cancer and FightAIDS@Home at the World Community Grid. |

I just put a set of Goodyear Forteras w/Silent Armor on my Sierra Z71. They are the best tire I have ever used. The truck came with Firestone Wilderness ATs, which didn't even last the trucks warranty. I then put on a set of BFG All Terrain TA KOs on my truck. They had great grip up until 50K miles then they lost the majority of their bite. They are also quite noisy and hard/stiff. They gave the truck a much rougher ride. The new Forteras have no noise and a much smoother ride then the other tires that were on the truck. |

| reply to mythology Personally my pick goes for the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's that I currently have (had the BFG's AT/KO's before). The Revo's have excellant traction and AT capability that in my opinion surpasses the BFGs but at the same time they are also a very quiet tire. Tread wear has been excellant. I currently have about 45k on my set with about 70% tread left. My father in-law put on over 100k on his set (mostly highway driving). |

| reply to sailor sailor What was it about the Goodyear Wranglers that made you hate them? Mostly, the horrible wet traction but the noise and ride were nothing to write home about either. By the time they were halfway worn, wet pavement starts required either a very light right foot, or a switchover to 4wd to get rolling. The first panic stop on wet pavement was nearly an underwear-changing event.
The BFG's were a lot better on wet pavement, somewhat quieter, and had a marginally better ride. The current Dimension LE's are a little worse than the BFG's in those areas but still a vast improvement over the Wranglers for wet traction. -- Son, there's only one thing you need to know: HEMI |
